About Donne che Resistono

Donne che Resistono is the new multidisciplinary, itinerant festival promoted by the Bracciano Municipal Library, near Rome. From July 16 to 18, 2026, three free-entry evenings weave together literature, cinema, and theatre around stories of freedom, courage, and memory: from a scenic reading aboard the Sabazia II motorboat to a documentary on Afghan women and a recital inspired by Greek tragedy. A journey giving voice to female resistance, both past and present.

Donne che Resistono: the voice of female resistance in Bracciano

Donne che Resistono is the new cultural festival promoted by the Bracciano Municipal Library, located on the lake of the same name in the province of Rome, with the patronage of the City's Department of Culture. Multidisciplinary and itinerant, the event showcases stories that empower History, encouraging reflection and rebellion against oppression, injustice, violence, and war. At its heart lies the resistance of women, told through the written word, cinematic imagery, and theatrical performance.

Three events blending word, image, and stage

The program consists of three free-entry evenings, each hosted in a different location across the city to highlight the festival's itinerant nature. From the lakeside to civic spaces, the events create a continuous dialogue between the lake's landscape and the stories being told.

  • Scenic reading on the water: the festival sets sail aboard the Sabazia II motorboat with a reading from Senses by Palestinian writer Adania Shibli, performed by Chiara Favero amidst the evocative atmosphere of Lake Bracciano.
  • Cinema and testimony: the Municipal Library hosts the screening of the documentary Faghan by Emanuela Zuccalà, followed by the presentation of the book Donne. Resistenza. Libertà. (Women. Resistance. Freedom.) with volunteers from the NOVE association, focusing on the condition of Afghan women.
  • Theatre and myth: the Municipal Historical Archives in Piazza Mazzini stage Donne legate da un filo rosso (Women bound by a red thread), a recital by Paola Lorenzoni based on ancient Greek tragedy texts, accompanied by live improvisations from Nicola Buffa.

A civic festival on the lake

With Donne che Resistono, Bracciano and its surrounding Lazio territory reaffirm their commitment to cultural programming that combines artistic quality with civic engagement. The choice to host meetings between the motorboat, the library, and the historical archives transforms the city into a widespread stage, where female memory becomes a tool for collective reflection. The initiative is open to all citizens and summer visitors to the shores of Lake Bracciano.
