The summer festival of the Municipality of Formello featuring music, shows, cinema, and sports
Formello Estate is not a themed festival but a true umbrella event series: under this name, the Municipality of Formello, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital (Lazio Region), gathers dozens of appointments that animate the village from June until the first days of August. Music, live performances, cinema, culture, food, sports, and entertainment alternate almost every evening, changing settings each time: the Municipal Gardens, Piazza San Lorenzo, the courtyard of Palazzo Chigi, and the streets of the historic center.
The formula chosen by the administration is one of variety: the same week can host a classical music concert, a children's show, a singer-songwriter evening, and a sports event. It is a choice that responds to the vocation of the town, a community of a few thousand inhabitants that in summer becomes a reference point for the entire area north of Rome, between the Cassia road and Lake Bracciano.
The charm of the festival also lies in its locations. Formello preserves a compact medieval layout, dominated by Palazzo Chigi, a noble residence that today houses the Museum of the Agro Veientano and which in summer lends its courtyard to evening shows. Not far away, the Municipal Gardens become the main concert arena, with an open-air stage and enough capacity to welcome the public arriving from neighboring towns.
The summer program traditionally intertwines with the patronal feasts of Saint Lawrence and Saint Prudentius, celebrated in Formello around August 10th, and with other initiatives promoted by the Pro Loco: processions, devotional moments, the marching band, food stalls, and musical evenings that represent the most identity-defining moment of the Formello summer. The Chigi Festival, dedicated to research and chamber music, is also part of the overall season's program.
The festival is promoted by the Municipality of Formello (Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism) with the support of the Lazio Region and the contribution of BCC Provincia Romana, in collaboration with the Pro Loco of Formello and local associations. Almost all events have free admission, a policy that over the years has made Formello Estate one of the most popular municipal festivals in the area north of Rome.
Less than thirty kilometers from the Grande Raccordo Anulare, Formello offers a genuine summer alternative to the nightlife of the capital: outdoor evenings in a cozy village, free admission, a family-friendly audience, and the possibility of combining the show with a walk in the Veio Regional Park or a visit to the Etruscan archaeological area of Veio, one of the most important in Lazio.
The Municipality of Formello has presented the 2026 program for the festival, scheduled from June 5th to August 2nd, 2026. The formula remains the proven one: a widespread program that alternates concerts, theater, open-air cinema, children's shows, cultural talks, and sports events in the squares and iconic locations of the town.
The month of July concentrates the heart of the festival, with almost daily evenings featuring classical music, Italian songs, family shows, and great cinematic tributes. The festival also intertwines with the Formello Chigi Festival and initiatives to promote the excellence of the territory supported by the Lazio Region.
The event is organized by the Municipality of Formello with the support of the Lazio Region and the BCC Provincia Romana, in collaboration with the Pro Loco of Formello.
