About Dancescreen in the Land

Dancescreen in the Land is a touring contemporary dance festival that kicks off in Bracciano, in the heart of the Lazio region, before traversing the Appian Way Archaeological Park and Rome. Conceived by Fiorenza d'Alessandro and organized by the Associazione Canova22, it weaves together site-specific performances, creative residencies, screendance, and workshops in dialogue with the lake landscape. The Bracciano leg, set between the Borgo Acqua Paola and the historic center's viewpoints, inaugurates a journey each year that unites body, nature, and heritage.

A dance festival between body and landscape

Dancescreen in the Land is a touring contemporary dance festival that launches every summer in Bracciano, in the Metropolitan City of Rome, Lazio, before extending toward the Appian Way Archaeological Park and the theaters of Rome. Conceived by choreographer Fiorenza d'Alessandro and organized by the Associazione Canova22, the festival intertwines live performances, screendance, creative residencies, training, and installations in a constant dialogue between body, memory, and territory.

The Bracciano leg

The festival opens every year in Bracciano, between the scenic Borgo Acqua Paola, nestled in the greenery of Pisciarelli, and the historic center's viewpoints overlooking the lake. In this landscape of water and silence, Creation in the Land takes shapeโ€”an immersive creative retreat dedicated to the relationship between dance and landscape, involving dancers and performers from international companies. The Bracciano leg offers site-specific sunset performances, public showcases, and the participation of local entities such as the Bracciano Polyphonic Choir.

A touring route through Lazio

After Bracciano, the festival continues along the Appian Way Archaeological Park, where dance meets archaeology through guided walks and performances set among the remains of the ancient consular road, concluding in the cultural spaces of Rome, from the Fornace del Canova to the city's theaters. The map of locations thus becomes a poetic geography where the audience is invited to move, linger, and get involved.

Dance, nature, and community

Supported by the Ministry of Culture as part of a three-year project, Dancescreen in the Land combines choreographic research, training, and public engagement. Each edition revolves around a theme that connects dance gestures with the environment and the community, turning the Municipality of Bracciano and the Lazio region into an open-air laboratory where contemporary dance dialogues with nature, historical heritage, and the lake landscape.

Dancescreen in the Land โ€” edition 2026

The fifth edition of Dancescreen in the Land, titled "Respiro al Centro" (Breath at the Center), opens in Bracciano from August 27 to 30, 2026, at Borgo Acqua Paola. The theme invites a rediscovery of breath as an original gesture connecting the body with the environment and memory. The Bracciano leg hosts the creative residency Creation in the Land, led by performers from the Hofesh Shechter Company, and a series of site-specific performances, before the festival continues until October 25 between the Appian Way and Rome.

Fifth edition: "Respiro al Centro"

In 2026, Dancescreen in the Land reaches its fifth edition with the theme "Respiro al Centro," an invitation to rediscover breath as an original gesture that connects the body to the environment, movement to memory, and individual presence to the collective dimension. The Bracciano leg, at Borgo Acqua Paola, inaugurates the journey from August 27 to 30, 2026.

The festival then continues until October 25 along the Appian Way Archaeological Park and in Rome's cultural spaces, with a program weaving together performances, residencies, training, and screendance. The edition engages with the bicentennial of Carlo Collodi and the Shakespearean universe, culminating in the new production Collodi โ€“ L'Ombra e la Grazia.
