Music, theatre, and live performances in the iconic settings of Capranica
The Francigena Live Festival is the summer event that brings Capranica to life, a historic village in the Tuscia area of Viterbo province, in the heart of Lazio. Promoted by the Municipality of Capranica with the support of the Lazio Region as part of its cultural heritage promotion, the festival spreads music, theatre, and performance throughout the town's most evocative locations, many of which overlook the famous Via Francigena, the ancient pilgrimage route to Rome.
The 2026 edition features a lineup that blends great auteur music, jazz, and social theatre:
The scenic heart of the festival is the Cavea dell'Acquaforte, a recently renovated area within the natural monument of the Valloni della Via Francigena, a natural amphitheatre immersed in greenery. Other events take place in Piazza San Francesco, with the church of the same name providing a backdrop, and in the city parks along the Strada dell'arte sui cammini, in a continuous dialogue between live performance and landscape.
Nestled on the tuff cliffs between the Cimini Mountains and the Viterbo countryside, Capranica preserves a medieval historic centre crossed by the Via Francigena, a historic stop for pilgrims heading to Rome. The festival fits into this identity as a land of pilgrimage and encounter, offering residents and travellers one more reason to discover Tuscia in summer.
Many events are free of charge. For the I Concerti nel Parco performances at the Cavea dell'Acquaforte, booking via email to the association is recommended; tickets are also available on-site starting at 7 PM. The full programme and updates are published by the Municipality of Capranica.
The festival opens on Friday, June 26 with the children's show Hiram Circus in the public park along the Strada dell'arte sui cammini, with free admission.
Sunday, June 28 (9 PM), the Cavea dell'Acquaforte hosts Gratitude, featuring the Gabriele Coen Quartet and narrator Giancarlo De Cataldo, dedicated to the legacy of Cohen, Bowie, Prince, and Michael Jackson.
Tuesday, July 7, in Piazza San Francesco, the tribute We all love Ennio Morricone by the Orchestra ARS LATINA is preceded by the reading Ci invitavano a uscire! with Anita Caprioli and Claudia Zanella, for the 80th anniversary of the Republic and women's suffrage.
The cycle of major concerts concludes on Saturday, July 25 (9 PM) with Il fuoco che ti porti dentro, featuring Peppe Servillo and Cristiano Califano at the Cavea dell'Acquaforte. The festival continues with events until the beginning of August.
Capranica (VT) is located in the Tuscia area of Viterbo, in northern Lazio. By car, take the Via Cassia (SS2) or the A1 motorway, exiting for Viterbo. By train, the Capranica-Sutri station is served by the Rome-Viterbo line.
Numerous events are free of charge. For the concerts at the Cavea dell'Acquaforte, booking is recommended; tickets are available on-site from 7 PM.
The shows take place outdoors: comfortable clothing is recommended, and for the Cavea, footwear suitable for natural trails.
