In the hamlet of Carciato, part of the municipality of Dimaro Folgarida (Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige), the "Doi misteri de 'na bota" festival—a celebration of ancient crafts—takes you back in time to explore the traditional trades and knowledge of the Val di Sole. The name, in the local Solandro dialect, evokes the "mysteries" (or crafts) of a bygone era, preserved and showcased today thanks to the Val Meledrio Ecomuseum.
The heart of the festival lies in the industrial archaeology treasures preserved along the Meledrio stream. At the entrance to the village, arriving from Folgarida, you will find the municipal Venetian Sawmill and the ancient forge, both in perfect working order and still powered solely by the stream's water. During the event, these historic facilities are set in motion and demonstrated to the public, showcasing the ancient industry that, since long ago, allowed the communities of Dimaro and Carciato to develop wood processing, ironworking, and lime production.
Throughout the streets of Carciato, you can witness demonstrations of traditional crafts, also curated by the Val di Pejo Ecomuseum:
The soundtrack is provided by local choirs and musical groups—from the Armonici Cantori Solandri performing in the church to the Sasso Rosso Band of Dimaro Folgarida and various folk groups. For the little ones, workshops are organized around storytelling and ancient skills, while food stalls offer typical Val di Sole dishes and products for lunch and dinner.
Set among the mountains of western Trentino, just a stone's throw from the Adamello-Brenta Nature Park and the slopes of Folgarida, "Doi misteri de 'na bota" is an ideal stop for those spending the summer in Val di Sole who want to discover the authentic soul of these valleys. The festival is traditionally held on the penultimate Sunday of August and combines culture, tradition, and gastronomy in a day suitable for the whole family.
The dates for the 2026 edition of "Doi misteri de 'na bota" in Carciato (Dimaro Folgarida) have not yet been announced. The event is traditionally held on the penultimate Sunday of August and will once again feature, as every year, demonstrations of the ancient crafts of Val di Sole — Venetian sawmill, water-powered forge, haymaking, cheesemaking, and flax processing — along with choirs, bands, folk groups, children's workshops, and food stalls. The detailed program will be published in the weeks leading up to the event.
Carciato is a hamlet of Dimaro Folgarida, in Val di Sole (Province of Trento). By car, it can be reached via the SS42 Tonale and Mendola road; the nearest motorway exit is San Michele all'Adige-Mezzocorona (A22), followed by the SS43 and SS42 towards Val di Sole. By train, the reference station is Dimaro on the Trento-Malé-Mezzana railway line.
The festival takes place outdoors along the village streets: comfortable shoes are recommended, especially for the morning excursion to the Val Meledrio Ecomuseum sites. Admission to the event and demonstrations is free; some guided tours may require booking at the Dimaro Folgarida tourist office.
