Four nights of folk music and local cuisine in the village of Piedimonte, in the Vallo di Diano valley
Piedimonte in Festa is the signature summer event in the village of Piedimonte, a rural community within the municipality of Teggiano, in the province of Salerno, located in the heart of the Vallo di Diano (Campania). For four consecutive nights between late July and early August, the streets of this small village fill with long tables, food stalls, and live music. It is a village festival in the most authentic sense: built by residents for residents, yet open to anyone looking to spend an evening in good company, with no tickets or barriers.
The event is organized by the Madonna delle Grazie Association of Piedimonte, the same group that manages the religious celebrations in honor of the village's patron saint. This is no minor detail: all proceeds from the four nights are donated to support those celebrations, which take place in Piedimonte at the beginning of July with liturgical rites, a procession, and a major concert. The late-summer festival is, therefore, primarily a community self-funding effort: people eat, dance, and contribute to the Madonna's feast. This dynamic explains why participation is so heartfelt and why the event has grown year after year to become one of the most anticipated moments of the Teggiano summer.
The evenings are held under the banner of House Folk Music, a formula that perfectly captures the spirit of the event: Southern folk music, tarantellas, and dance rhythms, interspersed with contemporary Neapolitan songs. There are no elaborate stage setups, just a central area of the village where the public stands, sits at tables, or simply gathers on their doorsteps. It is the classic model of Vallo di Diano festivals, where music serves to unite the community rather than fill a concert bill. Visitors from outside will find an atmosphere rarely seen in large festivals—one made of familiar faces and children playing between the tables until late at night.
Alongside the stage, food stalls are run entirely by the association's volunteers. The menu follows the traditional home cooking of the Vallo di Diano, a land of livestock and vegetable gardens, served in generous portions at village-festival prices. You only pay for what you consume: no entrance fees, no subscriptions, and the evening's proceeds go directly into the fund supporting the patron saint's festivities.
Those who reach Piedimonte are just a few minutes' drive from the historic center of Teggiano, one of the best-preserved medieval villages in inland Campania. With its ancient urban layout, the Macchiaroli Castle overlooking the valley, churches, and a maze of alleys, it hosts other events in the summer, most notably the grand historical re-enactment that brings the town back to the Middle Ages every August. The Vallo di Diano, with the Certosa di San Lorenzo in Padula and the Pertosa-Auletta caves nearby, offers plenty of reasons to stay for a few days.
Piedimonte in Festa is part of the summer program promoted by the Municipality of Teggiano, which distributes concerts, food festivals, shows, and sporting events between the main town and its villages from late July to late August. For the local administration, it is also a tool for tourism promotion and animating the smaller hamlets that remain very quiet during the winter.
The 2026 edition of Piedimonte in Festa marks the ninth anniversary and spans four consecutive nights, from Thursday, July 30, to Sunday, August 2, in the village of Piedimonte di Teggiano, in the province of Salerno. It is organized by the Madonna delle Grazie Association of Piedimonte, which mobilizes dozens of volunteers every year for cooking, table service, and setup.
The common thread is the now-recognizable theme of the festival, summarized by the House Folk Music formula: folk music, dance rhythms, and Southern songs, with the stage lighting up after dinner and continuing until late at night. The opening night on July 30 features Jo Donatello, the first guest announced for the 2026 edition, while the following evenings continue with musical performances and moments of gathering.
As per tradition, all proceeds from the four nights—good food and good music, according to the organizers—are donated to support the festivities in honor of the Madonna delle Grazie, which are celebrated in Piedimonte at the beginning of July. Participating in the festival means making a concrete contribution to the village's social and religious life.
The event is included in the summer program of the Municipality of Teggiano, which distributes events between the historic center and the villages from late July onwards: music, culture, shows, and sports, with a strong emphasis on popular participation.
Piedimonte in Festa 2026 — 9th edition, from July 30 to August 2. Evenings begin around 8:00 PM with food stalls; live music follows later in the evening.
Every evening takes place under the "House Folk Music" banner, with food prepared by the volunteers of the Madonna delle Grazie Association. The organizers have not released the full lineup of artists for the subsequent evenings: for updates, please refer to the association's Facebook page.
Piedimonte is a village of Teggiano, in the Vallo di Diano. By car, take the A2 del Mediterraneo motorway and exit at Atena Lucana or Sala Consilina, then follow local roads toward Teggiano: the village is just a few minutes from the town center. The nearest airport is Naples-Capodichino, about a two-hour drive away. Public transport in the evening is very limited: a car is essentially essential.
Parking is available along the village streets and in open spaces near the festival area. On busier nights, it is best to arrive early and park a bit further uphill, then walk down.
The evenings start around 8:00 PM and continue until late at night. Admission is free: you only pay for what you order at the food and drink stalls.
Agriturismos and bed & breakfasts can be found in Teggiano and neighboring towns in the Vallo di Diano (Sala Consilina, Padula, Sassano). In high season, it is advisable to book a few weeks in advance.
