Umbria's first medieval music festival, in the heart of Assisi
DeMusicAssisi is the medieval music festival of Assisi (province of Perugia, in Umbria), presented as the first event of its kind in the region. The event aims to bring to light the splendor of the so-called "dark ages" of history, returning the musical richness of the Middle Ages to the public through concerts, conferences, and performances spread throughout the historic center.
The program alternates concerts by leading early music ensembles, conferences and seminars on medieval artistic disciplines, itinerant performances, a market exhibition of ancient lutherie, educational workshops, and a tavern with traditional tastings. The main venues are the Palazzo Monte Frumentario, the Sala delle Logge in Piazza del Comune, the Resonars Academy, and the historic churches of the city.
Among the protagonists of the various editions are ensembles of absolute importance on the international scene, starting with the renowned Ensemble Micrologus, as well as groups like La Manticora, Fragmenta, Exsurge Domine, Dramsam, Korymbos, and Exaquier. The artistic direction is curated by the Academy of Ancient Arts Resonars, with the patronage of the Municipality of Assisi.
The 4th edition of DeMusicAssisi takes place from August 4 to 9, 2026, in the historic center of Assisi, with the theme "Gloriosus Franciscus". The festival is dedicated to the 800th anniversary of Saint Francis' death and his relationship with medieval music in all its forms, between the 13th and 15th centuries.
The musical journey starts from Assisi, from Umbria and central Italy, reaching distant lands, from Northern Europe to the Middle East, touching upon the great themes dear to Franciscanism. The artistic direction is by the Academy of Ancient Arts Resonars, with the patronage of the Municipality of Assisi.
