Medieval Christmas music in the streets of Assisi
The DeMusicAssisi Winter Edition is the winter version of the medieval music festival in Assisi (province of Perugia, in Umbria). Between late December and early January, the historic center of the city of Saint Francis comes alive with a medieval Christmas repertoire: bagpipers, polyphonies, and sacred lauds, in a journey that combines devotion, popular tradition, and musical research.
The program offers free admission concerts in various locations in the historic center, with a repertoire focused on medieval Christmas music: from 15th-century polyphonies to lauds. There is also the "medieval banquet," a convivial moment that reconstructs the atmosphere of past holidays, alongside courses and activities on early music offered by Accademia Resonars.
The winter edition completes the DeMusicAssisi project, which in the summer brings early music to the city's palaces and churches. In winter, the festival connects with the Christmas atmosphere, offering residents and visitors an original and evocative way to experience the holidays in the unique setting of Assisi, under the direction of the Accademia d'arti antiche Resonars.
For the 2026 holiday season, the return of the DeMusicAssisi Winter Edition is expected in the historic center of Assisi. The winter edition of the festival, curated by the Accademia d'arti antiche Resonars, will feature the medieval Christmas music repertoire that characterizes the event: polyphonies, sacred lauds, bagpipers, and the traditional medieval banquet.
The program for the Winter Edition between late 2026 and early 2027 — including the schedule of concerts, venues, and times — will be published by Accademia Resonars closer to the Christmas holidays. The usual structure includes free concerts of medieval Christmas music in various locations in the historic center, 15th-century lauds and polyphonies, and the medieval banquet.
