Medieval historical re-enactment at the Castle of Delia
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Delia Medievale is the historical re-enactment that brings the town of Delia, in the province of Caltanissetta, to life every September in the heart of central Sicily. Organized by the Associazione Folklore Petiliano in collaboration with the Municipality and the Pro Loco Delia APS, the event transforms the area around the Arab-Norman castleโthe "castiddrazzu" dear to the town's collective memoryโinto a vast medieval park of approximately four hectares, featuring three themed itineraries dedicated to merchants, historical artifacts, and local flavors.
For two days, the village is filled with costumed performers, encampments, artisan workshops, and the scents of ancient cuisine. The program alternates between spectacular moments and opportunities for cultural insight, with a special focus on historical accuracy and audience engagement. Among the attractions that have made this re-enactment famous:
The highlight of the event is the musical "La bella castellana", inspired by the events of the Sicilian Vespers, which closes the evenings with music, acting, and scenic charm. There are also educational moments, such as the "Dialogue with History," where scholars and university professors share the historical context of medieval Sicily with the public.
Founded in 2024 and having grown rapidly, Delia Medievale has attracted tens of thousands of visitors and, in March 2026, was awarded the National Quality Mark by the National Charter of Palios, Re-enactments, and Historical Pageants, presented at the Chamber of Deputies in Rome: a recognition that confirms the seriousness of the work carried out by the association and the Delia community.
Nestled among the hills of the Vallone area, Delia offers visitors the chance to discover an authentic corner of inland Sicily, far from the beaten path: the castle, the historic center, and the town's hospitality provide the backdrop for a re-enactment that is at once a popular festival, a historical narrative, and an opportunity to promote the region.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of Delia Medievale have not yet been communicated. The event is usually held in September in the village of Delia (CL), featuring historical pageants, falconry, fire shows, combat displays, equestrian performances, and the musical "La bella castellana". Bolstered by the National Quality Mark obtained in March 2026, the event is highly anticipated for the new year. Please check the official channels to find out the dates and program as soon as they are published.
