The festival of the biscuit symbol of the upper Val d'Arda, in Lugagnano
The De.Co. Ring Biscuits Festival is one of the most cherished events in the calendar of Lugagnano Val d'Arda, a town in the upper Val d'Arda in the province of Piacenza, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna. Every year, in mid-May, the town center gathers around its most famous specialty: the ring biscuits, a round, hole-in-the-middle cookie that has become the true symbol of the area.
The ring biscuits were created in 1933 by baker Giuseppe Lombardi and have accompanied the daily life and festive occasions of the Lugagnano community ever since. In 2008, they obtained the Municipal Designation of Origin (De.Co.), an award that protects the deep connection between the product and its place of origin. Crumbly, golden, and perfect for dipping, they have become one of the symbolic products of the upper Val d'Arda, capable of attracting visitors from all over the province.
For an entire weekend, Piazza Casana and the town streets transform into the heart of the festival. Food stalls offer Piacenza's traditional specialties along with, of course, the ring biscuits; quality markets and craft exhibitors liven up the streets, while live music, dance performances, and fairground rides create a true village festival atmosphere.
Organized by the Pro Loco Lugagnano, the event is much more than a simple festival: it is the moment when the town renews its bond with its history and with a product that tells its identity. For those visiting the hills and the Piacenza Apennines, it is the ideal opportunity to discover the authenticity of the Val d'Arda, with its genuine flavors, hospitality, and traditions passed down through generations.
The 2026 edition of the De.Co. Ring Biscuits Festival, the 66th, brought two days of celebration to Lugagnano Val d'Arda's Piazza Casana. Featuring quality markets, craft exhibitors, local street food, live music, and a dedicated children's area with rides and inflatables, the famous ring biscuit was once again the undisputed star.
Mid-May, Saturday and Sunday. The 2026 edition took place on May 16th and 17th.
