Inclusive, free dance sessions following the Dance Well protocol in Rome's most iconic landmarks
"Danzare per Includere. Dancing Together in the Great Beauty" is an inclusive dance project conceived by the Parkin Zone APS association and hosted in Rome, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Lazio. As a winner of the Roma Creativa 365 public call promoted by Roma Capitale, the project features two annual cycles of events in 2025 and 2026, bringing dance practice into some of the capital's most symbolic locations.
The formula is as simple as it is radical: no stage, no scenery, no audience. Participants dance immersed in the beauty of these sites, guided by specialized instructors, in a setting where the distinction between performer and spectator dissolves.
Dance Well – movement research for Parkinson is an artistic practice born at the CSC Casa della Danza in Bassano del Grappa, now spread across Europe. It is based on three principles:
The Roman sessions are held outdoors in two exceptional locations. The National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia, in the Flaminio district, houses the world's most important collection of Etruscan art within its 16th-century nymphaeum and gardens. The Colosseum Archaeological Park, the monumental heart of the city, provides the backdrop of the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill.
Dancing in these spaces means traversing them with the body rather than the tourist's gaze: a different way of inhabiting heritage, restoring a living, daily function to these historic sites.
Founded in Rome in 2004 and chaired by neurologist Nicola Modugno, Parkin Zone is a social promotion association that has spent over twenty years using arts, sports, and movement as rehabilitative and cultural tools for people affected by Parkinson's and neurological conditions. Alongside "Danzare per Includere," the association runs an ongoing program of Dance Well classes and workshops in Rome.
All meetings are free and require mandatory booking. A free shuttle service is available for people with disabilities, providing round-trip transport from a designated meeting point, ensuring no logistical barriers hinder participation. No dance experience is needed: you can participate standing or seated, in comfortable clothing.
"Danzare per Includere" is not a show to watch, but an experience to live. It is one of the most original offerings of the Estate Romana, where culture does not merely entertain but becomes a concrete tool for inclusion, and where the "Great Beauty" of Rome stops being a postcard to become a shared space once again.
The second cycle of the project, a winner of Roma Creativa 365, is part of the Estate Romana 2026 program promoted by the Department of Culture of Roma Capitale. The sessions are held outdoors, on Fridays at 5 PM, and are led by two instructors specialized in the Dance Well methodology.
On July 17, 2026, the dance arrives at the Colosseum Archaeological Park, among the stones of the city's monumental heart. On July 24, 2026, the event moves to the National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia, in the setting of the 16th-century villa and its gardens.
Participation is free, but booking is mandatory: +39 339 6502872 or [email protected]. For people with disabilities, Parkin Zone APS provides a free shuttle service with round-trip transport from a meeting point, reserved for registered participants. No dance experience is required.
The meetings take place without scenery or stages, immersed in art sites. The 2026 cycle continues with further weekly appointments communicated by the association; for the updated calendar, please refer to Parkin Zone APS ([email protected], +39 339 6502872).
