RemaRoma per la Vita: Women's sport on the Tiber

RemaRoma per la Vita is a women's charity regatta held every October on the Tiber, in the heart of Rome, capital of the Lazio Region. The 'pink' race travels down the central stretch of the river between Ponte Nenni and Ponte Margherita, departing from the historic floating dock of the Reale Circolo Canottieri Tevere Remo in the Flaminio district. This is more than just a sporting competition: it is an event that blends physical activity with breast cancer awareness, reinforcing the message that 'exercise is medicine' during the rehabilitation journey of patients.

Sport and cancer prevention

The event was born from the intersection of health and sport during 'Pink October', the month dedicated to breast cancer awareness. On board the coxed gigs—the iconic rowing boats—are women from government, politics, entertainment, and journalism, alongside doctors dedicated to diagnosis and treatment, and, most importantly, breast cancer survivors. Rowing together becomes a gesture of rebirth and sharing, a message of strength and hope that reaches far beyond the riverbanks.

The link with Roma Breast Days

RemaRoma per la Vita is the sporting component of the international Roma Breast Days congress, which focuses on the most advanced surgical techniques and therapies for breast cancer. The event alternates the regatta on the Tiber with scientific symposia that bring together leading Italian and international medical experts in the capital. The project was conceived by Professor Giovanni Dal Pra, Director of Plastic Surgery at ASL Roma 1, and is supported by numerous institutional partners.

Organizers

The event is promoted by ASL Roma 1 in collaboration with the Lazio Region, CONI, Sport e Salute, the Italian Rowing Federation, the Italian Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (SICPRE), and the Reale Circolo Canottieri Tevere Remo, with the support of local Roman rowing clubs. This extensive network demonstrates how deeply Rome believes in this event, which combines solidarity, medical research, and a passion for sport.

A staple of Rome's 'Pink October'

Each edition brings over two hundred women to the Tiber, divided into dozens of crews, for a descent that is both a race and a festive parade. The regatta is accompanied by conferences, round tables, and awareness-raising moments aimed primarily at younger generations, emphasizing that prevention starts with knowledge. RemaRoma per la Vita is now a highly anticipated fixture on the Roman calendar, dedicated to the fight against breast cancer and capable of transforming the capital's river into a stage for sport and solidarity.
