Chamber music and sustainability in the villages of Abruzzo: the Montebello sul Sangro stop
Dandelion is a distributed festival for sustainable concerts created by the Identità Musicali ETS association, born from a desire to forge new connections between art, landscapes, and local communities. The project takes chamber music out of conventional venues and into some of the lesser-known villages of the Abruzzo hinterland—places often far from traditional cultural circuits but rich in scenic and human value. Each event takes place inside a mobile, energy-self-sufficient concert hall designed to minimize environmental impact: an immersive model of musical enjoyment that respects the host locations.
The municipality of Montebello sul Sangro, a tiny village in the province of Chieti overlooking the middle Sangro valley in Abruzzo, hosts the third stop of the festival's 2026 edition. The concert returns to the intimate Borgo Buonanotte, the hamlet that hosted Dandelion's debut in this corner of Abruzzo back in 2025: a quiet, timeless place that serves as the ideal setting for slow, sustainable, community-focused music. This stop is part of an itinerary that visits four Abruzzo villages across four different provinces throughout the summer.
The star of the concerts is Ensemble Baccano, the Identità Musicali group that has been bringing together Abruzzo musicians under 35 since 2021. For the 2026 edition, the string quartet presents the "MADE in Abruzzo" program, a musical proposal that fuses local folk and popular music with classical language, capturing the region's sonic soul in a refined yet accessible way. The association, admitted to the Ministry of Culture's National Fund for Live Performance in 2025, is the first youth instrumental ensemble from Abruzzo to receive this recognition.
True to its community-oriented mission, every Dandelion stop is more than just a concert; it is a moment of connection. At the end of the performance, the audience is often invited to a social gathering in the village alleys—a chance to experience the town and meet the local community. The festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture and the participating municipalities, and is promoted by an association of young musicians active in the Abruzzo region since 2021.
Admission to the concerts is free. Given the limited capacity of the mobile hall, online booking via the organizers' form is highly recommended. This event is designed for those seeking quality music in an authentic, natural, and sustainable setting, away from large crowds and close to the roots of Abruzzo.
