About Cundigiun

Cundigiun is the festival that tells the story of Varazze through its seven inland hamlets. For a weekend, the town squares are filled with stands where each village brings its own specialty: from the stewed cuttlefish of Pero to the ravioli of Alpicella, from the canestrelli of San Donato to panissa and bruschetta. Six orchestras liven up the evenings with jazz, swing, and traditional dances. More than just a food festival: a journey of taste and community that rewards those who collect tastings with gadgets and an official t-shirt.

A festival that speaks of the territory

The Cundigiun – Festa delle Frazioni is one of the most cherished gastronomic events in Varazze, in the province of Savona. The name recalls "condiment," the art of flavoring, but above all celebrates the identity of the seven hamlets of the Varazze hinterland, each with its own recipes and history. Now in its tenth edition in 2026, the event is a classic of the Ligurian spring calendar.

The flavors of the hamlets

The heart of the festival are the sixteen stands set up in the town squares, where the village associations offer typical dishes: stewed cuttlefish from Pero, ravioli from Alpicella, canestrelli from San Donato, and then panissa, bruschetta, and seafood specialties. Walking among the stands means traversing the entire popular cuisine of the area in just a few hundred meters.

Music and tasting tour

Six orchestras perform in the various squares, accompanied by a street band that moves through the streets. The evenings alternate jazz, blues, swing, and traditional ballroom dancing. A special feature of Cundigiun is the stamp collection tour: each tasting corresponds to a stamp, and those who collect a certain number receive a gadget or the official festival t-shirt, an original way to encourage the discovery of all the tastings.

Community and volunteering

Beyond the food, Cundigiun is an opportunity for meeting and volunteering: as the organizers emphasize, the stands support local associations and confraternities in financing social and cultural initiatives throughout the year. It is the most authentic Varazze, that of the hamlets working as a team.

Cundigiun — edition 2026

For its tenth edition, Cundigiun returned to the squares of Varazze on May 23-24, 2026. Sixteen stands offered specialties from the seven inland hamlets, while six orchestras enlivened the squares with live music. The stamp collection tour was confirmed, encouraging visitors to discover all the festival's tastings.
