Trail running through the morainic hills of Loranzè, in the heart of the Canavese region
The CulturalTrail Pedanea is one of the most distinctive trail running races in the Canavese area, organized by the Pro Loco Loranzè in the municipality of Loranzè, in the Province of Turin, in the heart of Piedmont. The event takes place at the foot of the Serra d'Ivrea morainic amphitheatre, the largest morainic hill in Europe, and has established itself in just a few years as a staple of the early summer running calendar.
The race offers two competitive tracks that wind through the woods, vineyards, and paths of the morainic hills, crossing the territories of Loranzè, Strambinello, and Parella:
The event's name is no coincidence: Pedanea recalls the ancient name of Loranzè, a village that was part of the Aosta Valley until 1947 before joining Piedmont. The race aims to highlight the identity and history of the territory, intertwining sports activity with the rediscovery of local cultural roots. Loranzè is described as a small village perched like a natural balcony over the last glacial moraine, with the Serra d'Ivrea acting as a scenic backdrop.
The CulturalTrail Pedanea is the result of the voluntary work of the Pro Loco Loranzè, which involves the entire community every year in setting up the course, aid stations, and hospitality. Since the first edition in 2023, which had just over a hundred participants, the event has grown steadily to exceed 260 participants in 2025, a sign of success that rewards the care for the territory and the event's family-friendly atmosphere.
The race is traditionally held on the third Sunday of June, an ideal time to enjoy the colors and scents of the Canavese hills. Registrations are made online via the iRunning platform, and early booking is recommended given the growing participation.
The fourth edition of the CulturalTrail Pedanea will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in Loranzè, in the Canavese area. The event confirms its proven format with two competitive routes through the morainic hills: the long track of approximately 19 km (610 m positive elevation gain) and the short one of approximately 8.5 km (230 m), which cross the territories of Loranzè, Strambinello, and Parella, alongside the non-competitive walk.
Registrations are already open on the iRunning platform, and participation in the competitive races is reserved for athletes registered with FIDAL, RunCard, or EPS. Start times and further logistical details will be communicated by the Pro Loco Loranzè closer to the event.
