The Culinary Night Ride—a gourmet evening journey on the Rittner Bahn, the historic narrow-gauge railway of the Ritten (Renon) plateau—is one of the most original culinary experiences in South Tyrol. Organized every summer by the Ritten Tourist Board in collaboration with local restaurateurs and hoteliers, it blends the nostalgic atmosphere of a vintage tram with the finest South Tyrolean cuisine, unfolding station by station above Bolzano.
The Liberty-style train, the "Old Lady"
The journey takes place aboard the Liberty carriages of the Rittner Bahn, affectionately called the "Alte Dame" (Old Lady): one of the most charming historic railways in the Alps, connecting Oberbozen to Klobenstein through meadows, woods, and breathtaking views of the Dolomites. During the ride, the train stops at various stations on the plateau, where a different course is served at each location.
Five courses, five stops
The dinner consists of a five-course menu, with each dish prepared and served at a different spot along the line. The evening begins at 7:00 PM at the Oberbozen station with an aperitif and appetizers, continuing with soup, a starter, a main course, and finally dessert, distributed across the stops of Maria Himmelfahrt, Lichtenstern, and Klobenstein, before returning to Oberbozen around midnight with a farewell digestif.

A traditional summer highlight
The culinary night rides are a staple of the Ritten summer, returning each year for a limited number of evenings. Due to the intimate atmosphere, tickets are limited, and advance booking through the Ritten municipal tourist offices is essential. It is a unique way to discover the plateau and its cuisine, combining the charm of a vintage train journey with the pleasures of South Tyrolean gastronomy.

The 2026 edition of the Culinary Night Ride on the historic Ritten railway takes place on four Wednesday evenings: June 10 and 17, and July 1 and 8, 2026. Each evening begins at 7:00 PM at the Oberbozen station with an aperitif and appetizers, continuing from stop to stop with soup, starter, main course, and dessert, until the return around midnight with a farewell digestif.

The culinary journey features five courses created by four local establishments—including Parkhotel Holzner, the Gloriette, Hotel Lichtenstern, and Apipura Hotel Rinner—accompanied by selected wines and gourmet mountain apple juices. Live music accompanies the journey under the starry Ritten sky.

Tickets cost €159.00 per person and include the menu, wine pairings, the special vintage train ride, and live music. Limited seating: advance booking is required at the Ritten municipal tourist offices.

How to get there
The Ritten Railway departs from the Oberbozen station, which can be reached from Bolzano via the Ritten Cable Car (Rittner Seilbahn) departing from the city center. By car, the plateau is accessible via the provincial road to Ritten.
Schedule
The evening begins at 7:00 PM at the Oberbozen station and concludes around midnight, with a return to the same station.
