A festive Carnival celebration in Piazza Medici with marching bands, flag-wavers, and traditional treats
The Costigliole d'Asti Carnival is one of the most cherished events in the Costigliole d'Asti calendar, located in the province of Asti, in the heart of Piedmont and its famous Moscato hills. Every year, on a Sunday in February, the historic Piazza Medici del Vascello becomes the natural stage for a popular festival that blends local Carnival traditions with family-oriented fun.
Carnival has always been a festival for children, and in Costigliole d'Asti, this spirit is celebrated with care: each edition offers surprises and entertainment specifically for the little ones. The municipal administration and organizers invite all residents, along with visitors from neighboring towns, to join in costume and fill the square with color, music, and cheer.
The heart of the event lies in the live performances that take place throughout the afternoon:
True to the best Piedmontese tradition, the festival is accompanied by delicious seasonal specialties: friciule (traditional fritters), bugie (fried Carnival pastries), and warm vin brulé (mulled wine), perfect for warming up on chilly February days. It is a wonderful opportunity to savor local products in a convivial atmosphere.
The festival is also the ideal occasion to discover one of the most charming villages in the Asti area: the imposing Castle with its artistic interiors, the historic center's fortress, the richly frescoed Church of the Misericordia, and the panoramic views over the Moscato hills, now a UNESCO World Heritage site for its viticultural landscape. This heritage provides the perfect backdrop for a community celebration that renews itself year after year.
The Carnival takes place on a Sunday in February in Piazza Medici del Vascello, in the center of Costigliole d'Asti (AT). The 2026 edition was held on Sunday, February 22nd.
By car: Costigliole d'Asti is about a 20-minute drive from Asti via the SP456 del Turchino. By train: the Costigliole d'Asti station is on the Asti-Castagnole-Alba line. We recommend arriving early to find parking near the center.
The festival in the square is free to attend. Gastronomic specialties (friciule, bugie, mulled wine) are available for purchase on-site.
A family-friendly event: bring the children in costume. Dress in layers, as February days can be quite cold.
