About Costigliole Carnival

Every February, Piazza Medici del Vascello transforms into the beating heart of the Costigliole d'Asti Carnival, nestled in the heart of the Asti Moscato wine region. This family-friendly event features the local Complesso Bandistico Costigliolese, the Alfieri flag-wavers and musicians, and delightful magic shows. Amidst confetti, colorful masks, and traditional Piedmontese flavors—friciule, bugie, and mulled wine—the town invites locals and visitors alike to fill the square with joy.

Carnival in the heart of Moscato country

The Costigliole d'Asti Carnival is one of the most cherished events in the Costigliole d'Asti calendar, located in the province of Asti, in the heart of Piedmont and its famous Moscato hills. Every year, on a Sunday in February, the historic Piazza Medici del Vascello becomes the natural stage for a popular festival that blends local Carnival traditions with family-oriented fun.

A celebration for the whole community

Carnival has always been a festival for children, and in Costigliole d'Asti, this spirit is celebrated with care: each edition offers surprises and entertainment specifically for the little ones. The municipal administration and organizers invite all residents, along with visitors from neighboring towns, to join in costume and fill the square with color, music, and cheer.

Bands, flag-wavers, and magic

The heart of the event lies in the live performances that take place throughout the afternoon:

  • The Complesso Bandistico Costigliolese, which opens the festivities with a repertoire typical of Carnival celebrations.
  • The Alfieri, a group of flag-wavers and musicians from Costigliole d'Asti, whose drums and aerial flag displays evoke the charm of local historical traditions.
  • Magic and entertainment shows dedicated to children, with games and activities that turn the square into a grand party venue.

Traditional flavors

True to the best Piedmontese tradition, the festival is accompanied by delicious seasonal specialties: friciule (traditional fritters), bugie (fried Carnival pastries), and warm vin brulé (mulled wine), perfect for warming up on chilly February days. It is a wonderful opportunity to savor local products in a convivial atmosphere.

Discovering the village of Costigliole d'Asti

The festival is also the ideal occasion to discover one of the most charming villages in the Asti area: the imposing Castle with its artistic interiors, the historic center's fortress, the richly frescoed Church of the Misericordia, and the panoramic views over the Moscato hills, now a UNESCO World Heritage site for its viticultural landscape. This heritage provides the perfect backdrop for a community celebration that renews itself year after year.
