The Corvaro Carnival, a village festival in the Cicolano region

The Corvaro Carnival is the traditional carnival celebration of Corvaro, a hamlet in the municipality of Borgorose, in the province of Rieti, Lazio. Every year, in the heart of winter, the village streets fill with allegorical floats, masks, and costumed groups for one of the most cherished events in the Cicolano, the mountainous area bordering Lazio and Abruzzo.

The parade of allegorical floats

The highlight is the parade of allegorical floats, crafted throughout the winter by local groups and associations. The floats, accompanied by walking mask groups, travel through the main streets of the village amidst music, confetti, and joy. At the end of the parade, an awards ceremony is held for the best floats and masks, followed in the evening by a grand masquerade party with music and dancing.

Who organizes the festival

The event is organized by the Antiquum Corbarium Association—whose name recalls the ancient Latin name for Corvaro—together with the Pro Loco of Borgorose, with the involvement of local volunteers and families. It is a deeply popular and participatory festival, designed especially for children and families.
