Contemporary ceramics in the historic courtyards of Egro, on Lake Orta
Cortili d'Arte Egro is an event dedicated to contemporary ceramics held in the historic courtyards of the Egro hamlet, in the municipality of Cesara, in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province, Piedmont. Nestled in the hills overlooking Lake Orta, the small village of Egro opens its most evocative courtyards and spaces for a weekend to host artworks, clay sculptures, and installations by Italian and international artists.
The exhibition is conceived and curated by the artistic collective Donne di lago e di creta, a group of ceramicists linked to the Cusio and Lake Orta area, with the patronage of the Municipality of Cesara. Born in 2023, the event has grown with each edition: in 2024 it involved six historic courtyards and twelve ceramicists, while in 2025 it expanded to Monte San Giulio di Pella with the "Femminile Ceramico" exhibition, dedicated to fifteen Italian and international artists.
The charm of Cortili d'Arte Egro stems from the dialogue between the works and the village's rural architecture: the ceramics are displayed among stone walls, balconies, vegetable gardens, and small squares, creating a path that invites you to discover every corner of the village. Alongside the exhibitions, there are workshops for children and adults, site-specific installations, and opportunities to meet the artists, in an atmosphere of widespread celebration and appreciation of the local ceramic tradition.
Visiting Cortili d'Arte Egro means combining an artistic experience with the discovery of one of the most authentic villages in the hills above Lake Orta. The event is part of the rich summer calendar of the Lake Tourist District and represents an opportunity to experience Cesara and its territory through the lens of contemporary art, in a natural and cultural setting of great charm.
The Municipality of Cesara has confirmed the schedule for the 2026 edition of Cortili d'Arte Egro, the contemporary ceramics exhibition that brings the historic courtyards of the Egro hamlet in Piedmont to life.
