The charity fun run and walk in the heart of Catania
CorriCatania is much more than just a run; it is one of the most cherished and well-attended events in the calendar of Catania, in the heart of eastern Sicily. Launched in 2009, this non-competitive fun run and walk attracts thousands of people every year who, wearing the iconic white t-shirt, fill the streets of the historic center in a long, colorful "serpentine" parade. This is not a race for elite athletes: anyone can join, whether running or simply walking, with family, friends, or even a dog on a leash.
The course covers approximately 5 kilometers at a free pace and passes through some of the most beautiful landmarks of the Etnean capital. The start is set at Piazza Università, along the central Via Etnea, before passing by Villa Bellini, Piazza Carlo Alberto, and other picturesque spots, finishing in the spectacular Piazza Duomo, at the foot of the Cathedral of Saint Agatha and the famous Elephant Fountain, the city's symbol.
The true heart of the event is solidarity. Each edition is tied to a concrete charitable project: wearing the white t-shirt means supporting a cause. Over the years, CorriCatania has funded an ambulance and a medical vehicle for the Italian Red Cross, equipped classrooms and spaces in pediatric wards of Catania's hospitals, and supported numerous other social initiatives, turning popular sport into a gesture of support for the local area.
In the days leading up to the race, Piazza Università transforms into the CorriCatania Village: a large open-air space with stands, sports demonstrations, music, dance, shows, entertainment for children, and school activities. It is the time when the whole city gathers in anticipation of the big final celebration on Sunday.
Participation is simple and accessible: with a small donation of a few euros at any CorriCatania Point, you receive the official kit including the white t-shirt, a numbered bib, and the event bag. It is an unmissable appointment for those who live in Catania and for those who want to discover the city in a different way, combining movement, fun, and generosity.
The 18th edition of CorriCatania brought the center of Catania to life from May 7 to 10, 2026, organized under the patronage of the Municipality of Catania. Four days of celebration at the CorriCatania Village in Piazza Università, featuring sports, music, dance, shows, and school activities, culminated in the 5km non-competitive fun run and walk on Sunday morning.
The free-pace route started from Piazza Università at 10:00 AM and finished in Piazza Duomo, passing through Via Etnea, Villa Bellini, and Piazza Carlo Alberto. The 2026 edition was linked to the charity project "Proteggiamo l'infanzia", aimed at setting up the T.I.M.MI. clinic at the Garibaldi Nesima Hospital, a space for care, listening, and protection against all forms of violence against minors.
The start is in Piazza Università, in the heart of Catania, easily reachable on foot from the central station and the main public transport stops. It is recommended to leave your car in peripheral parking lots, as the center is subject to parking bans and traffic closures during the event.
With a donation of 5 euros at the CorriCatania Points, you receive the official kit (t-shirt, bib, and bag).
