The road race that paints the streets of Casamassima blue
The Corrifenice in the Blue Village is the running event that transforms the center of Casamassima, in the Metropolitan City of Bari, into a grand race course every first Sunday of February. The name pays homage to the town's nickname, the famous Blue Village, and the phoenix of the organizing association, ASD La Fenice, which brings the event to life with the involvement of the local community and the LUM University "Giuseppe Degennaro".
The day is divided into two tracks designed for different audiences. The competitive race is a 10 km FIDAL national event, reserved for FIDAL, RUNCARD, and EPS members, featuring official timing and a pacer service. Alongside it is the 5-10 km fun run, open to everyone and non-competitive: an invitation to families, enthusiasts, and curious onlookers who want to enjoy the festivities without the pressure of a stopwatch. The start and finish lines are located in the heart of the city, in Piazza Aldo Moro.
Corrifenice is not an isolated event: it officially opens the Trofeo Terra di Bari, the provincial circuit that hosts numerous road races throughout the season, bringing together running clubs from all over the province. Running in Casamassima means kicking off months of challenges between Apulian clubs, from Atletica Conversano to the many groups in the Bari area, in an atmosphere that blends sporting rivalry with a spirit of togetherness.
Beyond the competitive aspect, the event focuses on promoting the local area and popular participation. The streets of Casamassima, with their characteristic old town, provide the backdrop for a morning of outdoor sport involving the Municipality, local associations, and many volunteers. It is the perfect opportunity to discover one of the most distinctive towns in the Bari hinterland in a festive and dynamic setting, complete with applause, refreshments, and the warm Apulian hospitality.
Despite a particularly gloomy morning, the fifth Corrifenice opened the Apulian running season, confirming itself as a consolidated fixture in the provincial calendar. The start was at 9:30 AM from Piazza Aldo Moro for the 10 km competitive race, followed by the fun run. The race inaugurated the 2026 Trofeo Terra di Bari, which this year spans fifteen stages.
Among the most active clubs was Atletica Conversano, present with sixteen athletes. In the men's field, victory went to Luigi Catalano (Pro Canosa), while Silvana Iania won the women's race; in the categories, a brilliant performance also came from Katiana Lisi, winner of the SF35.
