About Moschiano Flower Festival

On the solemnity of Corpus Domini, Moschiano transforms into an open-air art gallery. The town's streets are adorned with intricate floral carpets, crafted with mastery and devotion by the Boglione sisters. Symbols such as the Rosary, the Cross, the Eucharistic Chalice, the Dove of Peace, and the White Lily are brought to life using only flower petals along the route of the Eucharistic procession in this small town in the Vallo di Lauro, in the province of Avellino. It is a popular tradition that unites the parish, volunteers, and citizens every year.

A carpet of petals in the heart of the Vallo di Lauro

On the solemnity of Corpus Domini, the streets of Moschiano change their appearance: the pavement disappears beneath a sequence of floral carpets that line the route of the Eucharistic procession. This is the Corpus Domini Flower Festival, one of the most beloved traditions of this small town in the Province of Avellino, in Campania, which for a few hours turns the village into a picturesque open-air art gallery.

This is not an event staged for tourism; it is an act of devotion born within the community, which is why it retains a quiet, authentic atmosphere, quite different from the large-scale flower festivals of national renown.

The art of the Boglione sisters

The spectacular succession of floral paintings is created with mastery and devotion by the Boglione sisters, who every year gift the town with work of extraordinary artistic and spiritual value. Inspired by the luminosity of stained-glass windows, the artists meticulously recreate a series of religious symbols using exclusively flower petals:

  • The Rosary, laid out on the pavement like a necklace of petals;
  • The Cross, a solemn element that leads the procession;
  • The Eucharistic Chalice, the symbolic heart of the Corpus Domini feast;
  • The Dove of Peace, rendered with the light tones of white petals;
  • The White Lily, a reference to purity and Marian iconographic tradition.

The ensemble stretches along the procession route like a monumental installation of sacred paintings: an ephemeral work, destined to last only a few hours, living on the contrast between the labor of preparation and the brevity of the procession's passage.

A devotion that belongs to the whole community

The Flower Festival would not be possible without the collective work of the parish, volunteers, and citizens who gather, select, and shred the flowers in the hours leading up to the celebration. Mayor Sergio Pacia has described the Corpus Domini Flower Festival as “a central moment of our identity,” thanking the Boglione sisters for a gift that annually increases the cultural and spiritual prestige of the town and testifies to the sensitivity and industriousness of the people of Moschiano.

Moschiano, a village in Western Irpinia

With just over 1,500 inhabitants and an altitude of about 286 meters above sea level, the Municipality of Moschiano is located in the Vallo di Lauro, at the western edge of Irpinia, about twenty kilometers from the provincial capital Avellino and close to the border with the Nola area. It is part of the Partenio - Vallo di Lauro Mountain Community and is traditionally linked to hazelnut cultivation and timber processing.

The village preserves a religious heritage consistent with the festival: the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Carità, linked to the legend of the Virgin's apparition, and the Church of Maria Santissima della Carità, once dedicated to the Body of Christ, featuring a 16th-century portal and statues from the Nola school. The patron saints of Moschiano are the Madonna della Carità and Saint Gerard Majella.

What to expect during the day

  • The preparation of the carpets in the hours before the procession: the most interesting moment for those who want to understand the technique and photograph the designs while still intact;
  • The Eucharistic celebration in the parish church;
  • The Corpus Domini procession that crosses the floral paintings, the only moment when the work is “consumed”;
  • The village conviviality that accompanies the afternoon, among the alleys, churchyards, and small squares of the center.

Why it is worth a visit

Those seeking the most intimate dimension of Campanian popular traditions will find a rare example in Moschiano: a small-scale flower festival, artistically curated and deeply felt, in a village that has not yet entered mass tourism circuits. It is also an opportunity to discover the Vallo di Lauro, a green and little-traveled area between the Province of Avellino and the slopes of the Partenio.

Moschiano Flower Festival — edition 2026

On Sunday, June 7, 2026, for the solemnity of Corpus Domini, Moschiano renewed its Flower Festival. The streets of the center were covered with floral carpets created by the Boglione sisters, who recreated the Rosary, the Cross, the Eucharistic Chalice, the Dove of Peace, and the White Lily using only petals. The works stretched along the route of the Eucharistic procession like a monumental installation of sacred paintings, admired by citizens and visitors.
