Floral carpets and a solemn procession in the historic center of Fucecchio
The Corpus Domini Flower Festival (Infiorata) is one of the most beloved traditions in the town of Fucecchio, located in the province of Florence, in the heart of the lower Valdarno region of Tuscany. On the occasion of the religious feast of Corpus Domini, the historic center dresses up for the celebration, turning into a true city of flowers: dozens of floral carpets and paintings take shape along the streets and squares, ephemeral works of art composed exclusively of whole and shredded petals, leaves, seeds, and other natural materials.
The Fucecchio Flower Festival is rooted in popular devotion and the ancient custom of adorning the path of the Eucharistic procession with petals. Over the years, the event has grown into a significant regional appointment, attracting hundreds of visitors. The heart of the event is the Fucecchio Flower Artists Group, which, together with the Pro Loco, coordinates over three hundred volunteers who spend days gathering flowers, cutting petals, and composing the intricate designs.
The floral carpets wind through the main streets of the center: Corso Giacomo Matteotti, via Nelli, via Donateschi, and town squares such as Piazza Montanelli and Piazza Amendola. Floral displays and paintings are also created inside iconic landmarks like the Civic and Diocesan Museum and the Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Vedute.
The highlight of the event is the solemn Corpus Domini procession, which takes place on Sunday morning after Holy Mass, moving through the decorated streets. The festival also features numerous side events: an arts and crafts market in Piazza Montanelli, free guided tours of the city, and the Fiat 500 rally, which brings historic carsโoften decorated with floral themesโto the streets.
Visiting the Fucecchio Flower Festival means immersing yourself in a unique atmosphere where the spirituality of Corpus Domini meets artistic creativity and the warmth of an entire community. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the historic center of Fucecchio and its treasures, located in an authentic corner of the Florentine province, just a short distance from the Padule di Fucecchio wetlands.
The 37th edition of the Corpus Domini Flower Festival in Fucecchio was held from June 4 to 7, 2026, culminating on Sunday, June 7. This edition was dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi, in the year of the eighth centenary of the saint's death.
The cutting and preparation of the flowers took place on the evenings of June 4 and 5 at the Giardini Cardini. On Saturday, June 6, starting at 4:00 PM, the composition of the carpets began, while an arts and crafts market was held in Piazza Montanelli and the streets of the center. On Sunday, June 7, after the 9:30 AM Mass at the church of Santa Maria delle Vedute, the solemn procession passed over the floral works.
The approximately 35 floral paintings colored Corso Matteotti, Piazza Amendola, via Checchi, and other spaces in the center, with additional displays at the Civic and Diocesan Museum and the Sanctuary. The 5th Fiat 500 rally also took place on the same day.
Fucecchio can be reached by car via the SS67 or the FI-PI-LI highway (Fucecchio/San Miniato exit). By train, the reference station is San Miniato-Fucecchio on the Florence-Pisa line, with bus connections to the town center.
The event takes place during the feast of Corpus Domini, between late May and June. The carpets are prepared in the days leading up to the event, while the procession takes place on Sunday morning.
The event is completely free and takes place outdoors in the historic center.
