Pitoch's allegorical floats invade the historic center of Copparo
In the heart of the Bassa Ferrarese, the Municipality of Copparo (Province of Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna) transforms for one Sunday into the kingdom of confetti and masks. The Square Carnival is the great popular festival that enlivens the historic center of Copparo, with Piazza del Popolo serving as the natural stage for a day entirely dedicated to families and children.
The absolute protagonists are the papier-mâché allegorical floats created by the masters of Pitoch, heirs of the historic carnival of Mezzogoro. These are true ephemeral works of art: giant figures, bright colors, and mechanisms that animate the parade. The floats follow a ring circuit around the large square, accompanied by a shower of candies and gifts for the children, amidst balloons and clouds of confetti.
The event is the result of collaboration between the Pro Loco Copparo, the Pitoch artists, and local associations, with the patronage of the Municipality of Copparo. A rich program of entertainment unfolds around the parade: the funfair with rides and inflatables for the little ones, food stalls with traditional flavors and typical Carnival sweets, and the much-anticipated award ceremony for the most beautiful and imaginative masks and costumes, divided into children's and adults' categories.
On Sunday, February 15, 2026, the center of Copparo was filled with colors and smiles for the Square Carnival. Thanks to the splendid sunny day, many people of all ages crowded Piazza del Popolo for a celebration dedicated mainly to costumed children.
The event, the result of collaboration between Pro Loco Copparo and the Pitoch artists with the patronage of the Municipality, featured papier-mâché allegorical floats from the historic Mezzogoro carnival, welcomed in the square amidst balloons and confetti launched from turrets. The event concluded with the award ceremony for the most beautiful and imaginative masks and costumes, in the children's and adults' categories.
