The Formignana Chicken Festival

The Formignana Chicken Festival is one of the most beloved summer events in the lower Ferrara area. It takes place in the hamlet of Formignana, in the Municipality of Tresignana (Province of Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna), with the heart of the event in Piazza Unità. The festival is organized by the Pro Loco Formignana with the support of the main sponsor Avicola Artigiana and the collaboration of numerous volunteers and local associations.

Roast chicken, the absolute star

As the name suggests, the signature dish of the festival is roast chicken, prepared according to local tradition and served at the food stands throughout the event. Alongside the chicken, the menu offers other specialties of Ferrara cuisine and typical dishes that vary from year to year, in a curated and abundant food and wine offering that attracts thousands of visitors from all over the province.

Live music and big guests

The Chicken Festival is not just about food: every evening the stage in Piazza Unità hosts free concerts, with at least one evening dedicated to a nationally renowned artist or band. Over the years, the festival has brought important names in Italian music to Formignana, transforming the village festival into a true open-air music event with free admission.

A festival for all ages

In addition to food and music, the event offers craft markets, exhibitions, board games, entertainment, and initiatives designed for families and children. The combination of good food, shows, and a convivial atmosphere has earned the Chicken Festival the national recognition of Quality Festival, confirmed for several consecutive editions.

When it takes place

The festival traditionally takes place between the end of July and the first days of August, over four consecutive evenings. It is a fixed event on the summer calendar of the Municipality of Tresignana and the entire lower Ferrara area.
