The summer feast of the San Giacomo hamlet, with piadine, sweets, and patronal tradition
The Masi San Giacomo Festival is the summer celebration of one of the most characteristic hamlets in the Municipality of Masi Torello, in the province of Ferrara, in the heart of the Emilian plain. Masi San Giacomo is in fact the only hamlet in the municipality, a village of ancient origins already mentioned in the Ferrarese statutes of 1287, located along the provincial road between Masi Torello and Voghiera, a few kilometers from the Este city.
The festival takes place at the end of July, coinciding with the feast of the patron saint Saint James the Apostle, celebrated on July 25th and to whom the village's parish church is dedicated. It is precisely from the churches dedicated to Saint James, built by the Torelli-Salinguerra lords in memory of Giacomo Torelli, that the hamlet takes its name and its inhabitants that of giacomensi.
For four consecutive evenings, the streets of the center โ Via Ariosto and Via Don Cerioli โ come alive with traditional food stalls. The festival is simple and straightforward, true to the spirit of the village festivals of the Bassa ferrarese: the absolute protagonist is the piadina, hot and fragrant, accompanied by sweets and specialties to be enjoyed while strolling among the stands in the evening hours.
Do not expect large stages or international shows: this is an authentic celebration, made by local people, with bakery scents and outdoor chats under the July stars. It is the perfect opportunity to discover a little-known corner of the province of Ferrara and to experience true Emilian hospitality.
Visiting the Masi San Giacomo Festival is also an opportunity to explore the surrounding territory. Masi Torello is part of the lands between Ferrara and the Po Delta Park, an area of countryside, canals, and ancient agricultural settlements. Not far away are the Este delights of Voghiera and the city of Ferrara, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its Renaissance center, the Este Castle, and its walls.
The Masi San Giacomo Festival 2026 returns from July 24th to 27th in the hamlet of Masi Torello, in the province of Ferrara. The event is officially registered in the regional portal of public area fairs in Emilia-Romagna.
