About Coppa della Primavera

The Coppa della Primavera is an annual car slalom race that transforms the hairpin bends between Furore and Agerola, on the Amalfi Coast, into a race track suspended between the sea and the Lattari Mountains. Organized by the Automobile Club Salerno, the event has its roots in the historic Amalfi-Agerola hill climb established in 1961. Every year, it attracts dozens of drivers, the most competitive teams from Campania, and large crowds along the five-kilometer stretch of the Strada Agerolina in the province of Salerno.

A slalom suspended between the sea and the mountains

The Coppa della Primavera is an annual car slalom race that brings the Strada Regionale ex S.R. 366 Agerolina to life—a ribbon of asphalt climbing from the territory of Furore, in the province of Salerno, up to the plateau of Agerola. We are in the heart of the Amalfi Coast, in Campania: on one side, the Gulf of Salerno; on the other, the slopes of the Lattari Mountains, with the Path of the Gods providing a stunning natural backdrop to the competition. Few Italian motorsport events can boast such a spectacular setting.

The race track spans from km 6+000 to km 11+000 of the provincial road: about five kilometers of tight curves, dry-stone walls, and hairpin bends that drivers tackle against the clock. The race starts in the municipality of Furore and finishes in Agerola, where the parc fermé and the awards ceremony take place. The event is held under the patronage of both municipalities, the Province of Salerno, the CONI Campania regional delegation, and the Automobile Club Napoli.

From the Amalfi-Agerola hill climb to the present day

The event began in 1961 as the Amalfi-Agerola: at the time, it was a hill climb race starting from the Santa Rosa Monastery in Conca dei Marini and ending in Agerola. Over the next three decades, the race mirrored the evolution of Italian motorsport, transitioning from standard road cars to prototypes with modified bodies and safety features like roll bars. It continued until 1990, when a serious accident led to its suspension. After twenty-five years of silence, the race returned to the Coast in 2016 in the slalom format, organized by the Automobile Club Salerno.

The roll of honor features Domenico Scola, known to all as "Don Mimì," the "Flying Cosenza native," who achieved seven victories between 1966 and 1987. Other names linked to the race's history include Eduardo Govoni, Raffaele Fiordalisi, and Renato Arfè. The thirtieth edition was held in 2018, and in recent years, the event has solidified its status as one of the most representative motorsport gatherings in Campania.

How the race works

The format is the classic car slalom, spread over two days:

  • Saturday: Sporting and technical checks in the afternoon, with cars lined up and visible to the public.
  • Sunday morning: Course reconnaissance, the only opportunity for drivers to study trajectories and slowing points.
  • Sunday: The official timed heats, separated by brief temporary road reopenings.
  • Post-race: Parc fermé and awards ceremony in Agerola, with overall, group, and class honors.

The starting grid typically features two-seater prototypes, kart crosses, Racing Start group cars, Group N, and two-cylinder engines: a highly varied grid that allows the public to see both the fastest single-seaters and small, tuned touring cars in action on the same track.

Local racing teams

The Coppa della Primavera is, above all, a celebration of Campania's motorsport scene. Regularly participating teams include Scuderia Vesuvio, Scuderia Venanzio, Furore Motorsport, Tirreno Motor Sport, Tramonti Corse, Aequa Motorsport, The Giant, Egnatia, MM Racing, and Auto Sport Sorrento Racing. The bond with the Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi area is incredibly strong: many drivers compete in front of their home crowd, and it is not uncommon for spectators lining the walls to call out the names of the drivers as they speed past.

The centenary of the Automobile Club Salerno

The 2026 edition, the 33rd, held special significance: it officially opened the celebrations for the one-hundredth anniversary of the Automobile Club Salerno, presided over by Vincenzo Demasi, with the awarding of the 1st ACI Salerno Centenary Trophy. The race was also valid for the 2026 Slalom Series, the circuit promoted by the Campania-based organizers ASD Motorsport 2C, ASD Rombo Team, and Automobile Club Salerno.

An event that brings the town to life

For Furore and Agerola, the Coppa della Primavera is more than just a race: it is the day the road connecting the two towns turns into a natural grandstand. The roar of the engines blends with the terraced landscape of the Amalfi Coast vineyards, while in Agerola, on the Lattari Mountains plateau, the awards ceremony becomes a meeting point for enthusiasts, families, and tourists. Those arriving on the Coast during the race weekend find an atmosphere unlike any other: louder, certainly, but also more authentically local.

Coppa della Primavera — edition 2026

The 33rd Coppa della Primavera was held on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April 2026 on the S.R. 366 Agerolina, between Furore and Agerola. Seventy-eight drivers started in an edition with strong symbolic value: it opened the centenary celebrations of the Automobile Club Salerno with the awarding of the 1st Centenary Trophy. Overall victory went to Luigi Vinaccia in an Osella PA9/90 Honda.

The 33rd edition, one of the most attended

The 2026 edition of the Coppa della Primavera took place over the weekend of April 18 and 19, with checks on Saturday in Agerola and the race on Sunday along the five kilometers of the Strada Agerolina between Furore and Agerola. 78 drivers started, 69 of whom were classified at the end of the heats.

The overall victory went to Luigi Vinaccia, a multi-time Italian champion in the discipline, driving his Osella PA9/90 Honda with a time of 128.56. Behind him were Romeo Cioffi in a Radical Prosport E2SC 1400 and Gianluca Miccio in a Radical SR4 Suzuki E2SC 1600, both from Aequa Motorsport.

Among the classes, successes went to Elia Manzi in a Mini Cooper in the Racing Start 1600 Turbo, Giovanni Massa in a Citroën Saxo in the Racing Start 1600, Carlo Romano and Gennaro Terminiello in the RS Plus, Gaetano Castellano in a Peugeot 106 in Group N, and Domenico Cuomo in a Fiat 500 among the two-cylinder cars.

The ACI Salerno centenary

The president of the Automobile Club Salerno, Vincenzo Demasi, highlighted the value of the event, which inaugurated the organization's centenary year. The 1st ACI Salerno Centenary Trophy was awarded to Graziano Giordano. The race was valid for the first 2026 Slalom Series, promoted by ASD Motorsport 2C, ASD Rombo Team, and Automobile Club Salerno, and was held under the patronage of the Province of Salerno, the municipalities of Furore and Agerola, the CONI Campania regional delegation, and the Automobile Club Napoli.
