Cinisi's community festival starring local schools
Ciuri Ciuri is the community festival of the Municipality of Cinisi, in the heart of the province of Palermo, Sicily. Promoted by the municipal administration and organized in close collaboration with the town's Comprehensive Institute, the event transforms the streets and public spaces into an explosion of art, music, scents, and pride for an entire day. The title recalls the famous traditional Sicilian folk song, a symbol of roots, joy, and belonging.
The beating heart of Ciuri Ciuri is the youth of Cinisi's schools. All branches of the Comprehensive Institute participate in the event: the primary and secondary schools, the Danilo Dolci branch, the Gramsci branch, the Tenente Anania branch, and the Giovanni Meli middle school. The students become the absolute protagonists of a choral narrative dedicated to Sicilian culture and identity, through songs, performances, and moments of sharing that involve teachers, families, and citizens.
The day comes alive with live music, art exhibitions, creative workshops, and festive moments spread throughout the center of Cinisi. It is an occasion where the school steps out of the classroom to engage with the town, returning to the community the fruits of an educational journey built throughout the school year.
Particularly significant are the projects presented at the Peppino Impastato Auditorium, named after the anti-mafia activist originally from Cinisi. These include the podcast Voci contro le mafie (Voices against the mafia), created in collaboration with the Casa Memoria Felicia e Peppino Impastato, and a short film produced with the Solidanime association, intended to take Cinisi's students to national festivals. A blend of creativity and memory that ties the festival to the territory's civic heritage.
Ciuri Ciuri conveys a simple and deep-rooted message: when a community recognizes itself in its youth, it truly flourishes. The event strengthens the bond between schools, families, and institutions, valuing Sicilian popular traditions and Cinisi's identity as a laboratory of culture, participation, and commitment.
The 2026 edition of Ciuri Ciuri enlivened Cinisi with a day of widespread celebration: live music, art, creative workshops, and moments of sharing involved all branches of the Comprehensive Institute, from primary to secondary school.
At the Peppino Impastato Auditorium, two particularly heartfelt projects were presented: the podcast Voci contro le mafie, created with Casa Memoria Felicia e Peppino Impastato, and a short film produced with the Solidanime association, intended to take Cinisi's students to national festivals. Mayor Vera Abate expressed her satisfaction, thanking the school principal, teachers, staff, and families for the shared educational journey.
