Cinema Under the Stars in Stella is the summer open-air film festival that brings the Renon Plateau to life in the municipality of Renon/Ritten, in the province of Bolzano (South Tyrol). For a few evenings in August, a large screen is set up outdoors in the hamlet of Stella (Lichtenstern), in the private garden of Verena Wachter, made available by the Hotel Lichtenstern, to transform a mountain night into an unforgettable cinematic experience.
An aperitif and a film under the sky
The formula is simple and convivial: it begins at sunset with an aperitif hosted by the Hotel Lichtenstern, featuring small snacks and refreshing drinks as evening falls over the plateau. When the sky fills with stars, the screening begins, with many spectators sitting on the grass on blankets and throws. It is the perfect occasion for families, couples, and groups of friends who want to combine the pleasure of cinema with the cool air of summer evenings at over 1,100 meters above sea level.
Cinema and solidarity
The event has a charitable heart: admission is by voluntary donation, and all proceeds are donated to the Cuore di Bimbo Alto Adige (Kinderherz Südtirol) association, which supports children with heart conditions. Watching a good film under the stars thus becomes a small gesture of generosity.
How to reach Stella
Stella is located on the Renon Plateau, conveniently connected to Bolzano by the Renon cable car and the characteristic Renon Railway. Those arriving by car can park at the "Haus der Familie". The festival is organized by the Renon Tourist Association, the reference point for bookings and information on all events on the plateau.
Cinema Under the Stars Stella — edition 2026
In the summer of 2026, open-air cinema returns to Stella, in the municipality of Renon/Ritten, with three appointments in August in the garden next to the Hotel Lichtenstern. Aperitif from 8:00 PM, film from 9:00 PM, and voluntary admission to support the Cuore di Bimbo Alto Adige association.
A mix of comedies and films for everyone makes up the program for the three evenings, to be enjoyed on the lawn with a blanket or throw, in a mountain setting just minutes from Bolzano via the Renon Railway.
