Free open-air film screenings in Caserta
The Cinema Festival is one of the most beloved cultural offerings of the Caserta summer: a series of free open-air film screenings that brings together citizens, families, and film buffs in a city park every Tuesday. The initiative was born from the commitment of the Villa Giaquinto Committee, a local group that has been caring for the green spaces between Via San Carlo and Via Galilei for years, enlivening them with social and cultural activities open to all.
More than just a simple summer arena, the Cinema Festival is a community project. The park is managed through a participatory approach, based on a collaboration agreement between the Committee and the Municipality of Caserta, becoming a gathering place for several weeks where the big screen is accompanied by debates, meetings, and art and craft exhibitions. Admission is always free and requires no reservation, with the option to support the initiative through a voluntary donation.
Every evening is designed as a popular festival that begins long before the screening. The public can enjoy a food area with options for all tastes—vegan, vegetarian, and meat-based—accompanied by local craft beer, as well as an artisan market that brightens up the park. There is also a section dedicated to local products and moments for discussion and culture, all in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.
The program focuses on auteur cinema capable of speaking to a wide audience, alternating between recent titles and international classics. Screenings are held in their original language or in Italian, always in an informal and accessible setting, where even the youngest guests find space thanks to dedicated activities.
Located in the province of Caserta, in Campania, the event has established itself as one of the iconic fixtures of the city's summer: a way to experience public spaces, enhance urban greenery, and rediscover the pleasure of watching a film together, outdoors, in the heart of the city. It is a project that combines culture, social interaction, and urban regeneration, attracting hundreds of spectators every year.
For 2026, the Cinema Festival found its home at Park San Carlo, the small park at Via San Carlo 106 in the Villa Giaquinto area. Five Tuesday evenings, from June 16 to July 14, with free screenings requiring no reservation, open freely to the city.
Every event followed the same rhythm: at 6:30 PM, free skating lessons; from 7:00 PM, the opening of the food area with craft beer; at 7:30 PM, the market with artisans and debates; and at 9:00 PM, the start of the screening.
