Cinema under the Assisi sky
Cinema alla Rocca is the open-air summer film festival in Assisi (province of Perugia, in Umbria). The venue is one of the most picturesque imaginable: the Giardino degli Incanti (Enchanted Garden), the green space at the foot of the Rocca Maggiore, the medieval fortress that dominates the city. For about a month, every evening, the public gathers here to watch a different film on the screen set up within the ancient walls.
A quality program
The program features about twenty-five films: from the season's successes to award-winning films from major festivals, to classics of cinema history. The review also participates in the national "Cinema Revolution" project, supporting Italian and European cinema, with reduced ticket prices for eligible films. Some evenings are accompanied by introductions and thematic meetings curated by local associations.
An event for everyone
Promoted by the Municipality of Assisi in collaboration with Cinema Esperia of Bastia Umbra, Cinema alla Rocca combines the experience of watching films under the stars with the beauty of a symbolic city location. It is now an anticipated event of the Assisi summer.
Cinema alla Rocca — edition 2026
For the summer of 2026, Cinema alla Rocca confirms its open-air cinema event at the Rocca Maggiore in Assisi. In the year of the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis, the review includes a special section dedicated to the filmography of Chiara and Francesco of Assisi, alongside the usual program of the best films of the season.
The initiative is promoted by the Municipality of Assisi in collaboration with Cinema Esperia of Bastia Umbra.
Programme Cinema alla Rocca 2026
The complete program with the evening schedule of films and screening times will be published by the Municipality of Assisi in the weeks preceding the start of the review, generally at the beginning of August. A mini-series dedicated to films about Chiara and Francesco of Assisi for the 2026 centenary is announced.

How to get there
Rocca Maggiore can be reached on foot from the historic center of Assisi via a scenic uphill walk. The city is served by the Assisi-Santa Maria degli Angeli station (bus to the center) and the SS75 highway by car.
Tickets
Screenings begin late in the evening. Tickets can be purchased directly at the box office set up at the screening venue. Reduced prices are available for films participating in "Cinema Revolution".
