Two evenings of flavor, culture, and family fun in the greenery of Chiaiano
Chiaiano is one of the hilly districts of Naples, overlooking the countryside that stretches toward the Camaldoli hills and the municipalities north of the city. Here, on the volcanic soil surrounding the city, cherry cultivation is an ancient vocation: local varietiesโfrom the famous recca to the lustra, from the mulignana to the cornaiolaโhave been a source of pride for Neapolitan agriculture for decades, prized for their firm flesh and the intense flavor that the mineral-rich soil imparts. It is no surprise that the cherry festival is a deeply rooted tradition in Chiaiano: since the early seventies, the district has dedicated public events to its most representative fruit, attracting visitors from across the province of Naples and the Campania region.
The format proposed by Family Park Napoli takes up this legacy and translates it into a contemporary event built around the needs of families. Parco Cupa Spinelli, a large public green space in the heart of the district, transforms for two evenings into an open-air village where gastronomy meets entertainment: on one side, stands featuring local cherries, typical products, and street food; on the other, play areas reserved for children.
Those arriving at Ciliegia in Festa will find the vibe of a village fair transplanted into the city: groups of families on the lawns, children running between inflatables, and the scent of the grill and sweets mingling with the fresh hill air. The evenings begin in the late afternoon, as the June heat fades, and continue until late at night, allowing visitors to enjoy the park during hours when it is usually closed. It is a simple and practical way to restore value to a public green space, a theme particularly felt in this part of Naples.
Initiatives dedicated to the Chiaiano cherry have historically involved the 8th Municipality of the City of Naples and local agricultural organizations, first and foremost Coldiretti Napoli, committed to promoting native varieties and supporting the producers who maintain the last cultivated lands of the hilly area. A small heritage of knowledge revolves around the fruit: hand-picking, selection, direct sales, and transformation into traditional Neapolitan jams and desserts.
For those visiting Naples in the summer, Ciliegia in Festa & Family Park is a non-touristy and highly authentic experience: you step outside the historic center's circuits to discover a hilly, agricultural Naples, made of districts with their own distinct identity. For those living in the city, it is a low-cost evening to spend with children, outdoors, just a stone's throw from home. In both cases, the Chiaiano cherry remains the star: a small fruit that tells the story of the bond between Naples and its land.
On June 20 and 21, 2026, Parco Cupa Spinelli in Chiaiano hosted two evenings of festivities organized by Family Park Napoli, from 5:30 PM to 11:30 PM, with free entry. The event combined the promotion of the Chiaiano cherry โ a symbolic fruit of this hilly part of Naples โ with a program designed for children.
The park was divided into a gastronomic area, with tasting stands, typical Campanian products, and street food options, and the Family Park village, reserved for children and equipped with inflatables, games, and entertainment activities. To round off the evenings, live music and shows were scheduled throughout the opening hours.
Access was free for everyone; the organization provided priority free registration on Eventbrite, useful for entering without waiting in line during peak times.
The organization did not release a detailed hourly schedule for individual shows: activities took place continuously throughout the evening.
