Christmas in Castelforte is the holiday program that brings the village in the lower province of Latina, Lazio, to life every year, from the switching on of the lights on December 8th until Epiphany on January 6th. Promoted by the Municipality of Castelforte with the collaboration of the Pro Loco, local parishes, and numerous associations, the program weaves together devotion, entertainment, and conviviality in a packed calendar that involves the town's squares, churches, and historic center.

Illuminations, nativity scenes, and markets

The season kicks off on December 8th with the lighting of the illuminations in Piazza San Giovanni Paolo II, accompanied by tastings of local food and wine, the arrival of Santa Claus, and entertainment for the little ones. The same day marks the opening of the Lower Lazio Nativity Scene Exhibition, hosted in the parish hall of Santa Maria del Buon Rimedio and open until January 6th: a showcase featuring handcrafted nativities and works by local artisans.

On the Sundays of December, the heart of the festivities moves to Piazza della Medaglia d'Oro, where Christmas markets offer handicrafts, gift ideas, and local products, along with magic shows and entertainment for children. The atmosphere of the village, with lights and decorations illuminating every district, invites visitors to stroll among the stalls and discover the flavors of local tradition.

Concerts, living nativity, and Epiphany

The calendar reserves ample space for music, with Christmas concerts hosted in the town's churches, including the church of San Rocco. On December 26th, the historic center hosts the living nativity, a re-enactment of the birth of Jesus with costumed performers that captures the most authentic and popular dimension of Christmas in Castelforte. On the evening of December 31st, the community gathers in the square for a New Year's Eve toast.

The grand finale is dedicated to Epiphany: on January 5th, the Pro Loco hosts the wait for the Befana, while on January 6th, Piazza Falcone e Borsellino hosts the historic Children's Befana and Senior Citizens' Festival, an intergenerational event organized by the Grape Festival Committee that has closed the festivities with joy, sweets, gifts, and moments of sharing for decades.
