The Christmas village in the dungeons of the Svevo Castle in Barletta
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Christmas at the Castle, also known as Santa's Castle and presented in its most recent version as Christmas Wonderland, is the most beloved Christmas event in Barletta, a city in the Province of Barletta-Andria-Trani (BAT), in Apulia. Every year, between late November and Epiphany, the evocative dungeons of the Svevo Castle are transformed into an enchanted village designed for children, families, and local schools.
The entrance ticket allows visitors to explore the secret rooms of Santa Claus and his elves inside the fortress. The route is built as a small journey: in each room, younger visitors must pass a test or complete a mission with the elves before handing over their letters and finally meeting Santa Claus. The setting of the Frederickian castle, with its historic walls and chambers, makes the experience even more magical and distinct from classic Christmas villages.
The heart of the event is the underground route, divided into five themed environments:
Outside the castle, typical wooden huts are set up for the Christmas markets, where local artisans and producers offer decorations, traditional sweets, and original gift ideas. The market area is freely accessible. The calendar is also enriched by themed shows featuring famous fairy-tale characters and performances by local associations, which bring the festive days to life.
Christmas at the Castle stands out for its strong social vocation: admission is completely free for people with disabilities and their companions. The initiative is organized by A.S.D. La Barlettana in collaboration with the A.I.P.D. (Italian Down Syndrome Association) Barletta section, with the patronage of the Municipality of Barletta and the Superintendency. The "CostruiAMO il Natale" project also involves local schools with discounted rates for classes accompanied by teachers.
Set in one of the city's iconic monuments, the Svevo Castle, the event is an opportunity to rediscover the historic center of Barletta during the Christmas season. Easily reachable on foot from the train station, the castle overlooks the seafront, and just a few steps away are the Cathedral and other treasures of the city center, in an itinerary that combines the magic of Christmas with the Apulian historical heritage.
The 2026 edition of Christmas at the Castle in Barletta has not yet been officially scheduled. Based on previous editions, the Christmas village in the dungeons of the Svevo Castle usually opens between late November and early December, remaining open until Epiphany. The exact dates, the route of the themed rooms, and ticket prices will be published by the organization (A.S.D. La Barlettana) on official channels. It is recommended to check for updates before planning your visit.
The Svevo Castle is located in Piazza Castello, in the center of Barletta, about a 15-minute walk from the Barletta Centrale train station (Trenitalia and Ferrotramviaria lines). By car, it can be reached from the A14 motorway exit; for parking, the Garage Colosseo, the Mongolfiera Shopping Center, and the Pietro Mennea seafront areas are recommended.
Entrance to the underground route requires a ticket (full price approx. 8 euros), with discounts for visitors with disabilities and free admission for children under two; the outdoor market area is free. Tickets are available online. Information is available on the event's official channels.
