The Chivasso literature festival featuring authors, legality, and new readers
Chiavi di Lettura is the literary event of the Municipality of Chivasso, located in the heart of the Canavese area in the province of Turin, promoted by the Department of Culture. It is not a festival concentrated into a few days, but a true cultural season that spans from November to May, with monthly meetings animating the most beautiful and symbolic locations of this Piedmontese city.
The stated goal of the event is to bring new audiences closer to reading through direct dialogue with writers, journalists, and witnesses of our time. Over the years, the festival has hosted leading voices from the Italian cultural scene, alternating between fiction, non-fiction, current affairs, and civic engagement. The meetings are held in various spaces, both traditional and unconventional, to restore a collective and civic character to reading.
Starting with the 2025-2026 edition, the festival launched a new section, the Youth Festival, designed for students from schools in Chivasso and the surrounding area. A project involving hundreds of pupils in exclusive meetings with authors, where books are read and prepared in class before the event, transforming reading into a shared and formative experience.
Among the recurring themes of the festival are legality, civic memory, and current affairs. The festival is part of the "Luci sul Festival" circuit promoted by the Turin International Book Fair, confirming its deep roots in the broader Piedmontese cultural landscape. Admission to all events is free until capacity is reached, a defining trait that makes Chiavi di Lettura an event open to the entire community.
The fourth edition of Chiavi di Lettura took place in Chivasso from November 22, 2025, to May 23, 2026, with events spread throughout the winter and spring season. The festival confirmed its successful formula of free appointments with nationally renowned authors, hosted between the MoviMente Civic Library, the Civic Theatre, Palazzo Einaudi, and the City Council Hall.
The big news of the year was the launch of the Youth Festival (April 13-16, 2026), a section dedicated to schools that involved 571 students from 36 local classes in exclusive meetings with authors.
Chivasso is located about 25 km from Turin. By train, Chivasso station is a major railway hub, well-connected to Turin and the lines to Milan and the Canavese area. By car, it can be reached via the A4 Turin-Milan motorway (Chivasso Centro exit) or the SS11 road.
