A street festival between Rome and the Sabina region

The Cherry Festival in Piazza Re di Roma is a neighborhood celebration that enlivens one of the most popular open-air living rooms in Rome's Municipio VII, in the heart of the Appio Latino district. With the slogan "The countryside comes to the city, from Moricone to Rome," the event brings producers from the Sabina region closer to the capital's residents, transforming the square into a large market of authentic agricultural products. The initiative revives a street market tradition that, until 2016, animated commercial streets in the area such as Via dei Castani and Viale Marconi.

Moricone cherries take center stage

The heart of the festival is the Moricone cherry, from a village in the province of Rome in Lazio, famous for this sweet early-season fruit. They are brought to the square by the local farmers' cooperative, which offers freshly picked cherries along with other excellence from the Sabina territory:

• Moricone cherries, the season's first harvest;
• Award-winning Sabina PDO olive oil;
• Grapes and other local agricultural products;
• Stalls featuring crafts, vintage items, and clothing.

The Re di Roma rosegarden

May is also the month of blooming, the perfect time to visit the Re di Roma rosegarden, a multimedia garden created as part of the Re di Roma business network project in collaboration with the Municipio Roma VII and the support of the Lazio Region - Department of Productive Activities. This special green area in the square, adopted by the Madre Terra cultural association, guides citizens in discovering Millard Roses—among the most fragrant in the world—through QR codes and information materials.

Music, entertainment, and tradition

Beyond the market, the day offers cultural activities, music, and entertainment in a festive atmosphere designed for families, residents, and visitors. The festival is promoted by the Araba Fenice III Association together with the Re di Roma business network—the union of economic activities on Via Appia Nuova and Piazza Re di Roma, active since 2017 to promote local commerce—and the Madre Terra cultural association.

A free event in Municipio VII

Admission is free and the square is served directly by the Metro A Re di Roma station, and is also close to the Lodi stop on Metro C: reaching it is simple from anywhere in the city. Between the flavors of Lazio, fragrant roses, and music, the Cherry Festival is the ideal occasion for an afternoon with the family, dedicated to local products and neighborhood culture.
