About Cervara in Piazza

“Cervara di Roma in Piazza” is a vibrant day-long event in the historic center of Cervara di Roma, the highest village in the Lazio region, perched high in the Monti Simbruini near Rome. Amidst alleys carved into the rock and the main square, the village comes alive with a market featuring local mountain products, honey tastings hosted by regional producers, and afternoon country music. It is a simple, convivial village festival that blends authentic flavors, local craftsmanship, and the unique charm of a place known as the “village of artists” for its rock sculptures and murals.

A festive day in the highest village in Lazio

Cervara di Roma in Piazza is the event that brings life and energy to the heart of Cervara di Roma, a small town perched over a thousand meters high in the Monti Simbruini, in the province of Rome and the most authentic part of Lazio. For one day, the historic center—closed to traffic and accessible only on foot—transforms into an open-air living room where locals, hikers, and visitors from the capital and the Aniene Valley come together.

The village of artists

Cervara di Roma is no ordinary village: it is famous as the “village of artists,” an open-air museum where sculptures carved into limestone, murals, and the famous Artists' Staircase tell a long story of inspiration. In the 19th century, international painters and poets chose this place as a creative refuge, and today, walking through its steep alleys feels like traversing a sprawling work of art. The village festival thus becomes the perfect occasion to discover the town in a lively, communal atmosphere.

The market and the flavors of the Monti Simbruini

The heart of the day is the market featuring typical products of the Monti Simbruini, showcasing the gastronomic and artisanal excellence of the Lazio mountains. Stalls are filled with honey, cheeses, cured meats, and local crafts, often offered directly by small-scale local producers. A particularly popular highlight is the honey tasting, curated by local beekeepers, which invites visitors to rediscover a signature product of the plateau's forests.

Music and atmosphere

In the afternoon, the square lights up with country music, providing a soundtrack for strolling among the stalls and creating the relaxed, festive atmosphere typical of village celebrations. The formula is simple and genuine, making these small Apennine events so special: good products, social connection, live music, and the beauty of a mountain landscape just a stone's throw from Rome.

An event for the territory

Promoted by the Municipality of Cervara di Roma, the event highlights local resources and the village's bond with the Monti Simbruini Regional Natural Park. It is an initiative designed to showcase Cervara di Roma even outside the peak season, combining the promotion of local products, the discovery of artistic heritage, and the pleasure of a day spent outdoors in one of the most evocative villages in Lazio.
