A week of events for the theatre's 100th anniversary in Rubiera
The Herberia Theatre in Rubiera, in the heart of the Bassa Reggiana area in Emilia-Romagna, turned one hundred years old on January 14, 2026, exactly a century after its inauguration on January 14, 1926. To celebrate this milestone, the Municipality of Rubiera and La Corte Ospitale, which manages the venue, organized a full week of special openings from January 6 to 14, 2026, transforming the theatre into a space actively used by the community on a daily basis.
From January 6 to 13, workshops, open rehearsals, lessons, and meetings curated by local associations and organizations took place. The festival opened on January 6 with the children's performance Fagioli by I Teatri Soffiati. In the following days, there were the crochet workshop by Signore delle Rose, open rehearsals for the opera Circe by Gruppo Teatrale PINS, lessons by the Youth Orchestra and the Herberia Band of the Euterpe Association, reading sessions by the U. Codro Library, and workshops for families, from readings by Nati per Leggere to board games by Herberia Arcana.
The highlight was the evening of Wednesday, January 14, 2026. Special guest Peppe Servillo, actor and singer-songwriter, performed the inaugural speech given one hundred years prior by one of the seven founding members, including Umberto Tirelli. The evening was accompanied by the piano of maestro Stefano Giaroli and the ensemble Fantasia in Re, with pieces from Puccini's La Bohรจme, historical videos about the theatre's life, and the presentation of parchments to the descendants of the founders. The ceremony was attended by Mayor Emanuele Cavallaro, regional councilor Laura Arduini, and Giulia Guerra, director of La Corte Ospitale.
Built in the early twentieth century, the Herberia Theatre has been a focal point for the cultural life of Rubiera and the entire province of Reggio Emilia for a century. Today, it hosts the drama season curated by La Corte Ospitale, a nationally renowned theatre production center.
