The Tortel di Patate evening under the trees of Via Filos in Mezzolombardo
The Cena sul Viale is one of the most cherished culinary events in Mezzolombardo, a town in the Piana Rotaliana in the province of Trento, in the heart of the Trentino-Alto Adige region. The event transforms the characteristic Via Francesco Filos, with its evocative tree-lined path, into a large, open-air social gathering where long tables welcome residents and visitors alike for an evening dedicated to tradition and good company.
The dish around which the entire evening revolves is the Tortel di Patate, a grated potato fritter that is a symbol of the cuisine of the Piana Rotaliana and the nearby Val di Non. Served hot and crispy, it is accompanied by local cold cuts, cheeses, and vegetables. For the little ones, a smaller baby tortello portion is available, ensuring families can participate with ease. Thanks to a partnership with AIC Trentino (Italian Celiac Association), a gluten-free menu is also available, a thoughtful touch that makes the dinner truly inclusive.
The event is managed by volunteers from Pro Loco Mezzolombardo APS together with the Associazione Milan Club Mezzolombardo, local associations that bring the town to life and join forces in the kitchen and at the tables for this occasion. The atmosphere is that of a genuine Trentino village festival: simple, familiar, and convivial, where the love for local food blends with the pleasure of gathering under the trees.
Attending the Cena sul Viale means experiencing the most authentic side of Mezzolombardo. No reservation is needed: simply head to Via Filos, take a seat at the table, and let yourself be won over by the aroma of freshly fried tortel. It is the perfect opportunity to discover a signature dish of Trentino in an informal and welcoming setting, just a stone's throw from the Teroldego vineyards that make the Piana Rotaliana famous.
The Cena sul Viale 2026 took place on Monday, June 1, 2026, on the tree-lined Via Francesco Filos in Mezzolombardo.
