The district festival that kicks off the September celebrations in San Salvatore di Fitalia on the Nebrodi Mountains

Every year, on the weekend closest to September 8th, the Sant'Adriano district of San Salvatore di Fitalia—a small town in the Metropolitan City of Messina perched at an altitude of about 600 meters in the Nebrodi Mountains—gathers to honor Saint Adrian the Martyr, the soldier Adrian of Nicomedia, venerated as a martyr of the Church. It is an event deeply felt by the local community and many visitors from surrounding towns, who travel to the district each year for the two-day celebration.
The Saint Adrian celebrations hold a special place in the local calendar: they mark the beginning of the cycle of district festivals that define the entire month of September in San Salvatore di Fitalia. Following the long summer dedicated to the patron saint, San Calogero the Hermit, it is the turn of the various hamlets and districts—from Sant'Adriano to the other villages scattered between the Fitalia and Tortorici streams—to celebrate their own moments of joy, in a relay of devotion that unites the different souls of the town.
The festival is not just a religious appointment; it is, above all, an opportunity to reconnect and strengthen the common roots of the village. The program, organized by the Festivities Committee with the patronage of the Municipality of San Salvatore di Fitalia, blends liturgical moments with musical entertainment and activities that enliven the district. The traditional hospitality of local families, who open their properties to host the festivities, is an integral part of the festival's spirit.
Visiting San Salvatore di Fitalia during the festival is also a perfect chance to discover an authentic Nebrodi village: the Basilica of the Most Holy Savior, dating back to the Norman era and housing works by Antonello Gagini, the sanctuary of San Calogero, and the Sicilian Museum of Religious Traditions all tell the story of the deep devotional identity of this corner of Sicily in the province of Messina.
The program for the 2026 edition of the celebrations in honor of Saint Adrian the Martyr has not yet been published. Based on previous editions, the festival is expected to take place on the weekend closest to September 8th in the Sant'Adriano district of San Salvatore di Fitalia, featuring the usual liturgical moments and evenings of music and conviviality organized by the Festivities Committee. To stay updated on dates and the program, it is recommended to follow the official channels of the Municipality of San Salvatore di Fitalia.
The celebrations take place in the Sant'Adriano district of San Salvatore di Fitalia (ME), in the Nebrodi Mountains, at an altitude of approximately 600 meters.
