The grand parade of allegorical floats coloring the streets of Ceccano
The Ceccano Carnival is the most colorful and cherished winter event in Ceccano, a town in the province of Frosinone, nestled in the heart of the Ciociaria region and Lazio. For nearly forty years, this event has enlivened the streets with creativity, music, and community spirit, drawing families, children, and visitors from across the Sacco Valley. It is more than just a local festival; it has become a landmark event for the entire area, thanks to the bonds built over the years with neighboring towns that participate with their own floats and costumed groups.
The heart of the event is the grand procession of allegorical floats and costumed groups that traverses the town center, turning the streets of Ceccano into an open-air theater. The parade kicks off from Piazza 25 Luglio and winds along Via Roma, Via Madonna della Pace, Viale della Libertà , Via Aldo Moro, Via Gaeta, Piazza Berardi, and Borgo Berardi, ending at the railway station square. The floats, crafted over months of hard work by local committees and associations, are true masterpieces of papier-mâché, featuring giant figures, satire, and fantasy.
What makes the Ceccano Carnival special is its collective nature: the parade features floats and groups arriving from the neighboring towns of Villa Santo Stefano, Giuliano di Roma, Pofi, Castro dei Volsci, and Sonnino. This broad participation highlights the unifying role the event has taken on over the years, bringing entire communities of the Ciociaria together for the same celebration.
Once the parade reaches the station square, the day is far from over: the party continues with DJ sets, live music, animation, and vocal performances, alongside the essential food stalls where you can sample local specialties. It is the most convivial moment, where young and old alike stay to dance and celebrate until the evening.
The Ceccano Carnival is the perfect opportunity to discover the authentic and festive soul of this corner of the Ciociaria, amidst popular tradition, the art of master float-makers, and shared joy.
