A summer evening at the oldest castle in Monferrato

Castello DiVino is the summer festival that brings the Castello di San Giorgio Monferrato to life in the province of Alessandria, in the heart of Piedmont. Every Wednesday evening from May 27th to September 2nd, the fortress opens its doors for an event that weaves together history, food, wine, and live music, all against the backdrop of the UNESCO World Heritage hills of Monferrato.

The evening program

The evenings follow a well-established rhythm. At 7:00 PM, the guided tours of the castle begin, hosted by the Il Faggio Rosso Cultural Association. Accompanied by the architect Francesco Rolla, the current owner, visitors explore the ancient halls and art collections, retracing the stories of the noble families who shaped the manor, from the Aleramici and Paleologi to the Gonzaga and Gozzani dynasties. Booking for the tours is mandatory.

At 9:00 PM, the focus shifts to music, with a different live concert each week paired with a local winery offering its wines for tasting. The catering is provided by U-TÓPIA Eventi, using select ingredients from local producers.

History and territory

The Castello di San Giorgio Monferrato is considered by historians to be the oldest of the Monferrato castles, with the first records of its existence dating back to 859. Once home to noble families and, for a time, the seat of the Inquisition tribunal, it was frequently contested and partially destroyed before being rebuilt by the Gozzani family. Today, it remains a landmark for the town of San Giorgio Monferrato and a privileged vantage point over the surrounding hills.
