Castello di Note is the summer concert that the Banda Folk di Castello Tesino offers to its community and visitors in the scenic Piazza Trento, the heart of the village. We are in the municipality of Castello Tesino, in the province of Trento, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region, on a plateau in the eastern Valsugana surrounded by the Lagorai peaks and the forests of the Tesino area. The evening, which is free to attend, is one of the most cherished events of the local summer.
The village's musical tradition dates back to 1901, when Martino Braus purchased the instruments that gave life to the group; the first official performance took place in 1903, while in 1909 the first statute was approved by the imperial authorities in Innsbruck. In 1981, the ensemble took the name "Banda Sociale Folkloristica" and the musicians began wearing traditional Tesino costumes. In 2001, the band celebrated its first century of activity. Since 2003, the ensemble, consisting of about forty members of all ages, has been conducted by maestro Ivan Villanova.
What makes the Banda Folk unmistakable is its repertoire of Blasmusik, the brass band music of the Central European tradition widespread throughout the Alps between Trentino, Tyrol, and Bavaria. Marches, polkas, waltzes, and folk songs alternate with more modern pieces, capturing the soul of a border territory where Italian and Central European cultures meet. The authenticity of the Tesino costumes and the quality of the ensemble have led the band to perform at numerous important events, both in Italy and abroad.
The concert is organized by the Pro Loco di Castello Tesino together with the Banda Folk itself, with the support of the APT Valsugana Lagorai. In case of bad weather, the event may be moved indoors. The evening is part of the Tesino summer calendar, which includes festivals, hikes, and cultural events that bring the plateau to life during July and August.
Castello Tesino is one of the three municipalities of the Tesino plateau, overlooking eastern Trentino, famous for the history of its perteganti, the traveling print sellers who in the 19th century spread the name of the village throughout Europe. Today, the area is a destination for slow tourism, featuring mountain huts, trails, and historic centers. Attending the Banda Folk concert means experiencing an authentic fragment of Trentino folk culture in a mountain square under the stars.
At the moment, the dates for the 2026 edition of the Banda Folk di Castello Tesino concert have not yet been published. Following the custom of previous years, the event should be held on a July evening in Piazza Trento, with free admission. The musical program will be announced by the organization in the preceding weeks.
Castello Tesino can be reached by car from the Valsugana (SS47) by taking the exit towards Tesino; the nearest train station on the Trento-Venice line is in Grigno, from where you can continue by bus or car. The concert is held in Piazza Trento, in the center of the village.
Admission is free. The concert typically takes place on a summer evening in July (in 2025 at 8:45 PM). In case of rain, the event may be moved to an indoor venue.
