Original music from the Campania scene at the foot of the medieval village of Vairano Patenora
The Castel Music Festival is a day dedicated to original and independent music, held in Vairano Patenora, a town in the province of Caserta, in the Alto Casertano region of Campania. The event was born from a simple but rare idea for provincial festivals: the stage is reserved exclusively for original songs—no covers, no well-worn repertoires. This choice fundamentally changes the listening experience, putting the spotlight on those who write their own music, often far from the circuits of major cities.
The setting does the rest. The festival takes place in Piazzale Madonna di Loreto, an open space adjacent to the medieval village that climbs the hill toward the castle: the towers, walls, and stone alleys become the natural backdrop for an underground scene defined by distorted guitars and tight rhythms.
The June 2, 2026 edition, presented as Castle Music Festival #2, brought eight bands from across Campania to the stage, starting at 4:00 PM with a program that explored the diverse souls of the contemporary scene: rock, punk, stoner, grunge, and metal. The performance order announced by the organizers was as follows:
The format is that of a relay festival: sets follow one another throughout the afternoon and evening, with an audience free to move between the square and the village behind the stage.
The festival is organized and promoted by the cultural association StoriaNova, founded in 2018 in Vairano Patenora by the union of two groups active in the Alto Casertano since 2013, with the patronage of the Municipality of Vairano Patenora. StoriaNova works on cultural and territorial enhancement through contemporary artistic languages, with a particular focus on street art as a tool for urban regeneration and identity storytelling: over the years, it has carried out various artistic interventions in the area, helping to redevelop urban spaces and strengthen the local visual identity.
The Castel Music Festival applies the same principle to music: creating a space for original production while simultaneously showcasing the town's historical heritage through a contemporary form of gathering. With the second edition, the organizers declared their ambition to transform the event into a permanent cultural fixture in the local calendar.
Vairano Patenora is best known for its fortified medieval village, which preserves its original urban layout and climbs up to the castle, perched in an acropolis-like position on the hill. The surrounding walls are punctuated by a series of towers, and the alleys alternate between ruins, restored houses, and panoramic views of the plain. It is one of the most photographed spots in the Alto Casertano and, over the years, has become the natural stage for various municipal events, from the August Medieval Festival to summer cultural initiatives.
Those planning a day in the area can easily combine a visit to the historic center of Vairano Patenora with a tour of the Alto Casertano, among the villages and hilly landscapes on the border between Campania and Molise.
For its second edition, the Castel Music Festival occupied Piazzale Madonna di Loreto, the open space overlooking the medieval village of Vairano Patenora, in the Alto Casertano. The event kicked off at 4:00 PM, with a relay of eight Campania-based bands taking the stage until the evening.
The festival's rule remained the same: only original tracks. No covers, no crowd-pleasing repertoires, but a snapshot of the regional underground scene across rock, punk, stoner, grunge, and metal. With this edition, the StoriaNova association confirmed its goal of making the festival a permanent cultural fixture, capable of engaging contemporary music with the town's historical heritage.
The chosen date, June 2, allowed the festival to be held on a public holiday, encouraging attendance from neighboring towns in the province of Caserta.

For the June 2, 2026 edition, the start was set for 4:00 PM, with performances continuing until the evening. Available sources do not indicate the admission cost: it is advisable to check closer to the event with the organizing association or the Municipality of Vairano Patenora.
The village is uphill and the ground is stone: comfortable shoes are essential. Arriving a few hours early allows you to visit the historic center and the castle in the best light before the concerts begin.
