Celebrating the red fruit in the heart of Cassibile, a district of Syracuse
The Cassibile Strawberry Festival is one of the most anticipated food and wine events of late spring in the Syracuse area. Organized by the Pro Cassibile Association, the festival takes place in the heart of the district, in Piazza Don Antonio Saitta, transforming the town center into a grand stage dedicated to the red fruit that has made this part of the Municipality of Syracuse famous.
Cassibile is a district located about fourteen kilometers south of Syracuse, along the SS 115 road, in the heart of south-eastern Sicily. The area has long been renowned for the production of early-season produce and vegetables, but it is above all the strawberry that has built the town's agricultural identity. The cultivated variety, with its generous size, is distinguished by its extraordinary sweetness and intense pulp: the soil, rich in mineral salts and iron, combined with fresh water irrigation, gives these strawberries an unmistakable flavor, recognized as a true gastronomic excellence of the Syracuse region.
During the festival days, the stalls set up in the square allow visitors to taste and purchase the famous Cassibile strawberries, appreciated for their sweetness and quality, along with a rich selection of typical local products. The red fruit is presented in many delicious forms:
The event, with its strongly popular character, attracts residents and visitors from neighboring towns every year, helping to promote the work of local producers and strengthen the bond between the Cassibile community and its agricultural tradition. Its timing in late spring coincides with the peak ripening of the strawberries, ensuring fresh, seasonal products.
The festival is also an excellent opportunity to discover the area: Cassibile is close to the beach of Fontane Bianche and the Cavagrande del Cassibile Nature Reserve, while the city of Syracuse, with Ortigia and its Greek heritage, and the nearby Baroque town of Noto complete an itinerary through nature, sea, and culture in the heart of the Province of Syracuse, in Sicily.
The 2026 Cassibile Strawberry Festival was held from May 23 to 25, 2026, in Piazza Don Antonio Saitta, in the heart of the Syracuse district, organized by the Pro Cassibile Association.
The numerous stalls offered tastings and sales of the famous Cassibile strawberries, accompanied by granitas, ice creams, milkshakes, strawberry-based desserts, and more original offerings such as strawberry beer and aromatized wine. The details of the official program for this edition were not publicly released before the event.
Cassibile is a district of the Municipality of Syracuse, about 14 km south along the SS 115. It is easily reached by car from the motorway and the state road; the Cassibile railway station is served by the Syracuse-Ragusa line. The central square (Piazza Don Antonio Saitta) is the hub of the event.
The event typically takes place in late May, over a long weekend.
Free entry to the exhibition areas; tastings and purchases are made at individual stalls. It is recommended to take advantage of the day to also visit Fontane Bianche and the Cavagrande del Cassibile Reserve.
