The flower, plant, and beekeeping market fair in the village of Casole d'Elsa
When the warm season arrives, the village of Casole d'Elsaโa small medieval gem perched on the hills of the Val d'Elsa, in the province of Siena, in the heart of Tuscanyโtransforms into a vast open-air garden. Casole Fiorita is the flower, plant, and beekeeping market fair that takes over the streets and squares of the historic center every May, attracting gardening enthusiasts, families, and curious visitors from across the region.
The village streets are lined with stalls from nurserymen, beekeepers, agricultural producers, and green businesses: you will find ornamental flowers and plants, aromatic herbs, nature-themed crafts, and hive products such as honey, royal jelly, wax, and pollen. It is the perfect opportunity to pick up a new plant, discover traditional farming crafts, and speak directly with the producers working in the Tuscan countryside.
Casole Fiorita also features a rich program of activities for all ages. Among the most popular events are the children's treasure hunt focused on the flowers and herbs of the surrounding hills, creative workshops, street food served in the charming Piazzetta degli Innamorati, and musical performances that liven up Sunday afternoon. During the event, the Civic Archaeological and Collegiate Museum and local shops remain open, inviting visitors to take a stroll through the village walls.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Casole d'Elsa with the patronage of the municipal administration and the collaboration of local associations, including the Palio Committee. It is this spirit of collective participation that makes Casole Fiorita much more than a simple fair: it is a true community celebration that honors the arrival of spring, our bond with nature, and local traditions. Admission is free.
A visit to Casole Fiorita is also the perfect opportunity to discover one of the most characteristic villages in the province of Siena. The historic center preserves the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta, the Civic Museum, and the ancient walls, all set within the hilly landscape typical of central Tuscany, just a short distance from San Gimignano, Volterra, and Siena.
The thirteenth edition of Casole Fiorita confirmed the formula that has enlivened the village of Casole d'Elsa for years: two spring days among flowers, plants, and the fruits of bees' labor. On Saturday, May 23, the market opened in the afternoon, while on Sunday, May 24, the historic center hosted exhibitors, children's entertainment, street food, and live music until the evening.
Highlights of the edition included the performance by Bandidas, an all-female percussion street band, and the "Scent of Flowers and Grill" dinner organized by the Palio Committee.
During both days, the Civic Archaeological and Collegiate Museum and the village shops remained open.
By car: Casole d'Elsa can be reached from the Florence-Siena highway (Colle di Val d'Elsa exit), then by following the provincial roads toward the village. The nearest train station is Poggibonsi-San Gimignano, from which you can continue by bus or car.
Free admission. The market fair opens on Saturday afternoon from 2:00 PM and on Sunday from 9:00 AM.
