A culinary journey through Ciociaria at the foot of the Great Waterfall in Isola del Liri
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Cascata di Vino is a food and wine festival that brings the historic center of Isola del Liri to life every autumn, in the heart of the Ciociaria region, in the province of Frosinone (Lazio). The town is famous throughout Italy for a phenomenon rare in Europe: the Cascata Grande, a waterfall of about twenty-seven meters that plunges directly into the town center, right beneath the Boncompagni-Viscogliosi castle. During the event, the waterfall is illuminated, becoming the natural backdrop for a gourmet itinerary that winds through the town's squares, alleys, and bridges.
The historic center is adorned with lights, decorations, and information panels that guide visitors along a continuous path of stalls. Offerings range from local wines to the most authentic dishes of Ciociarian cuisine, alongside specialties from other Italian regions. Beyond the food, you will find local craft stalls set up in the main squares, as well as stands from local charitable associations.
The festival's format alternates gastronomic experiences with a packed program of entertainment. In past editions, the route has been animated by various musical stages distributed along the itinerary and live concerts in the squares, featuring folk music, funk, and electronic sets. Sunday is traditionally more family-oriented, with street performers, roaming folk groups, dance performances, and workshops for the little ones. The opening ceremony on Saturday at 6 PM is accompanied by the band of the Accademia Musicale Isolana.
The first edition took place on November 16-17, 2024; the second on November 22-23, 2025, always over the weekend. In just a few years, the event has become one of the most anticipated autumn gatherings in the Liri Valley: the municipal administration has presented it as "an opportunity for identity and participation," with the stated goal of making it a permanent fixture on the calendar and attracting visitors from across the province and the rest of Lazio.
Visiting Cascata di Vino is also an opportunity to discover a truly unique village. Isola del Liri sits on a river island formed by the splitting of the Liri River, which creates two urban waterfalls: the vertical and spectacular Cascata Grande, and the Cascata del Valcatoio. The center preserves traces of its industrial history linked to 19th-century paper mills, while the surrounding area offers the cuisine of Ciociaria, consisting of fresh pasta, cured meats, extra virgin olive oil, and wines from the province of Frosinone. November, with its crisp evenings and lights reflecting on the water, is the time when the town looks its best.
The third edition of Cascata di Vino is expected in Isola del Liri, in the province of Frosinone, during the month of November 2026, consistent with the schedule of the two previous editions, both held on a weekend in the middle or end of the month.
At the time of writing, neither the official dates nor the detailed program have been published. Information will be released by the Municipality of Isola del Liri and through the event's social media channels: it is advisable to check before planning your trip.
