The parade of allegorical floats in the heart of Carsoli
The Carsoli Carnival is the most anticipated winter festival in Carsoli, a town in the province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo, located at the gateway to the Marsica region and just a stone's throw from the border with Lazio. Organized by the Pro Loco Carseoli, in collaboration with local associations and under the patronage of the Municipality of Carsoli, the event attracts families, young people, and curious visitors every year who crowd the town center to witness the traditional parade.
The heart of the event is the parade of allegorical floats, true papier-mรขchรฉ masterpieces created by local mask groups. Colorful costumes, music, dancing, and choreography accompany the procession along the town streets, with children and adults in costume parading in an explosion of color and joy. The route ends in Piazza del Comune, which becomes the hub of the festivities.
The day combines carnival tradition with conviviality: the popular lunch in the square creates a moment of community sharing, while in the afternoon, the parade brings the historic center to life. The party then continues in Piazza del Comune with a DJ set that turns the heart of the town into a massive collective celebration until late at night.
The Carsoli Carnival is much more than just a parade: it is an event that strengthens the sense of community and highlights the identity of the Marsica territory. The Pro Loco Carseoli, led by Francesca Cantiello, manages the organization with passion, involving volunteers and citizens of all ages. The event is part of the wider "Carnival with the Pro Loco of Abruzzo" circuit promoted by the UNPLI, which brings together dozens of carnival celebrations in Abruzzo's squares every year.
On Sunday, February 15, 2026, Carsoli transformed into a lively celebration for the new edition of the Carsoli Carnival, organized by the Pro Loco Carseoli. The day began with a popular lunch in Piazza del Comune, a moment of community sharing, and continued in the afternoon with the parade of allegorical floats, the central element of the festival, featuring costumes, music, and choreography that entertained the public along the town streets.
The party continued in the square with a DJ set that enlivened the town center until evening. The president of the Pro Loco, Francesca Cantiello, spoke of a success "beyond expectations," thanking the volunteers and participants. The event was part of the "Carnival with the Pro Loco of Abruzzo" circuit (February 14-21, 2026).
Carsoli is located along the A24 Rome-L'Aquila motorway (Carsoli-Oricola exit), easily accessible by car from both Rome and L'Aquila. The Carsoli train station is served by the Rome-Pescara line.
The festivities are concentrated in the historic center and in Piazza del Comune. The parade travels along the main streets of the town.
Participation in the parade and the festivities in the square is free and open to everyone.
