The Platano Marble Carnival with rides, street food, and Lucanian folk tradition
When February arrives, the small village of Baragiano, in the province of Potenza, doubles its energy. For over two weeks, from February 7 to 22, 2026, the hamlet of Baragiano Scalo hosts the Carnival Village of the Platano Marble, a large, widespread festival that combines one of the most extensive amusement parks in Basilicata, a large area dedicated to street food, and an evening schedule of shows and concerts designed for all ages.
The cultural heart of the event is "Scarpรฌa โ The Breath of Lucanian Folk Tradition", a first-edition review dedicated to the accordion and folk music of Lucania. It is a declared tribute to the "living beat of the community," told through dance, song, and tradition, in a territory โ that of the Platano Marble โ where folk music remains an identity language.
The program alternates between food festivals, magic, comedy, and great accordion artists. Among the most anticipated guests is Giacomo Buccella, considered a world champion of the accordion, accompanied by comedian Thomas Mugnano. The inauguration with the Sausage Festival, the Baragiano Folk Group, and a series of Lucanian folk music evenings are also featured.
Promoted by Autiero Eventi and a large group of local operators โ including the Flauret family, Enzo Grippa, and Pasquale Autiero, with the support of the municipal administration of Baragiano โ the Carnival Village is also an opportunity for social interaction for the entire Platano Marble area and the neighboring municipalities of Melandro. Special attention is paid to inclusion, with free admission for people with disabilities.
The closing event on February 22 is entrusted to the Great Reunion of the Melandro Carnival, with allegorical floats and dance groups parading through the hamlet, before the dancing evening that bids farewell to Carnival.
The Carnival Village 2026 enlivens Baragiano Scalo for over two weeks, from February 7 to 22, with one of the largest amusement parks in Basilicata, a street food area, and a packed evening schedule of shows. The artistic direction is by Autiero Eventi, with the first edition of the "Scarpรฌa" review dedicated to the accordion and Lucanian folk tradition.
Baragiano Scalo is accessible from the Sicignano-Potenza highway junction (Baragiano exit) and is served by the train station. It can be reached from Potenza in about 30 minutes by car.
Admission to the festival area is free; rides and street food are paid according to operator rates. Free admission for people with disabilities.
Accommodation facilities are available in Baragiano and in the neighboring municipalities of the Platano Marble and in the provincial capital, Potenza.
