The "M. Gianussi" Municipal Band celebrates Carnival in Agliano Terme
In the heart of winter, when Carnival brings the villages of Monferrato to life, one of the community's most cherished events takes place in Agliano Terme, in the province of Asti: the Carnival Concert by the "M. Gianussi" Municipal Band. It is an evening that fills the Town Hall on Piazza Roma with music, warmth, and local spirit, confirming the band's role as a defining element of local culture.
The "M. Gianussi" Municipal Band has roots in an ancient tradition: it was founded in 1847, during the years when the Risorgimento movements that would lead to the Unification of Italy were first stirring. Since those distant days, through various ups and downs, the band has tirelessly continued its musical activity, becoming a point of reference for Agliano Terme and the entire province of Asti. In 2025, it completed the administrative process to comply with new Third Sector regulations and is now recognized as a Social Promotion Association (A.P.S.), registered in the National Single Third Sector Register.
Since March 2013, the band has been led by Maestro Cristian Margaria, a graduate of the Genoa Conservatory. His repertoire is broad and carefully curated: on one hand, it follows the tradition of band and folk music, while on the other, it explores new musical experiences capable of surprising and engaging the audience. The Carnival Concert is one of the occasions where this dual spirit emerges most strongly, alternating classic band pieces with more festive and lighthearted selections, in harmony with the Carnival atmosphere.
The concert is held in the Town Hall at Piazza Roma 21, in the center of Agliano Terme, and is generally free to attend. It is an event designed for everyone: families, music lovers, and curious visitors who wish to experience Carnival in a different way, guided by the notes of a band that has been safeguarding the territory's musical traditions for over a century and a half. More than just a concert, it is a gathering that strengthens the bonds of the Agliano community.
Nestled among the UNESCO-listed wine hills of the Asti Monferrato, Agliano Terme is a small spa town renowned for its waters and Barbera wine. Experiencing the Carnival Concert here also means discovering an authentic corner of Piedmont, where village traditions remain alive and deeply felt.
On Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 9:15 PM, the Salone Comunale at Piazza Roma 21 in Agliano Terme hosted the long-awaited Carnival Concert by the "M. Gianussi" Municipal Band. Under the direction of Maestro Cristian Margaria, the musicians performed a repertoire in line with the festive spirit of Carnival, confirming the band's role as a guardian of the community's musical traditions.
